Black Diamond thought of everything in this mitten.

The Black Diamond WindWeight Mitten brings warmth and wind resistance to your winter wardrobe whether you're on a snowshoe trail or the bottom of an alpine ascent. Polartec Windbloc-ACT fabric is highly wind resistant so your digits stay toasty in blustery weather. Pittards sticky suede helps you hold on to your poles, and a fold-back flap lets you access gear out of your pack with your digits instead of fumbling around with a pair of gloves on. And Black Diamond added a magnetic closure so the flap stays in place while you fix up for the fun times on a mountain.

Great gloves for when I'm skiing or in cold environments and need quick access to my camera or doing other tasks requiring dexterity. The magnet latches keep the mitten out of your way for when your working and then they quickly cover your hands again for warmth. Most of the time I can get away with these gloves all day in the cold.

They do what I was hoping (w/ some cons)

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

I really wanted a pair of gloves that would allow me to still use my fingers for smart phone handling. These seemed spot on for that purpose (as well as tying shoes, operating a DSLR camera, and making micro adjustments on my bike helmet). Not only do these allow you to uncover/cover your fingers quickly and easily, but the mitten action allows for your fingers to stay fairly toasty on runs. Plus when my hands are getting a little too warm, I can easily uncover my digits to help regulate my hand temperature, which is a really nice feature.

A con for me is that the magnets tend to be chilly on my fingers, and they don't tend to reliably secure the mitten flap. Many times I attach them and then they release due to quick movements while running (or even driving). Bummer, but not a deal breaker. Also, another challenge is getting these gloves off, I haven't damaged them, but I'm extra cautious when removing them because it feels like I'll tear the stitching by tugging on the flaps--there's simply no easy/designated place to grab them when pulling them off. A pull tab on one of the fingers (like a lot of cycling gloves have) would be helpful and reassuring since dropping $45 on gloves for me means hopefully getting 3+ seasons out of them.

      "Charlie! It just says "Magnets."!

Love these gloves. The magnets are ingenious. They also have a little bit of snap so you can tell they're locked. Very warm, and the suede palm makes driving with them easy. I have really wide hands so I got the XL. They fit great, except the thumbs are about a half an inch too long. Feels slightly awkward, but that's what I get for having pancake hands and sausage fingers. Thanks, genetics.

Even with the long thumbs these are my favorite gloves.

These are the perfect winter companion for your hands. Super comfortable and they look great. I needed a pair of gloves for windy days when I'm out taking photos. Early mornings and late nights can get pretty cold but I didn't want to be taking gloves off all the time to fumble with my camera or dig through my pack. After looking at some pairs of fingerless gloves and windproof gloves, I found this perfect option. And knowing that it comes from BD makes them all the more appealing. Bomber construction (typical for this company) and an appealing design made this the obvious choice. After slipping 'em on the first morning I needed them, I knew I made a great choice. They look just like they're pictured on the site as well.
