    A happy medium.

Half technical ice tool and half classic piolet, the Black Diamond Venom Adze Ice Axe is ideal for steep alpine climbs and ski mountaineering routes where some overhead swinging may be involved. The classic pick is made of a light but strong chromoly steel that is ideal for self-arresting. The curved aluminum shaft provides additional clearance when ascending steep colouirs, and the stainless steel spike provides an extra point of balance when traveling across snow fields.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When you need it, this thing is there, regardless of what your objective is. Not quite a technical ice tool, not quite a piolet only, it is a mixed stick of goodness and safety. Whether it is aiding in getting to the top of your alpine objective or being held at the ready on that steep couloir descent, it is there, ready to save you from a fall. The clip on the head allows it to be used as an anchor if need be, as well at the clipping point on the shaft. It can easily be used as an anchor, either shoved into the snow or as a t slot. It can also be used as a tent anchor as well which can be handy in the super windy environments. The pick is a classic shape for self arresting (and works incredibly great as I got to try on Mt Shasta). The rubber grip is gentle on the hands and it is durable. As with any specialized piece, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. The included leash is also a nice feature as well since it's one less thing you have to buy and you can easily remove it if you don't need it. Paired with the hammer for the most clinching objectives, this is a very versatile tool to have in the Arsenal.

    The pickiest of ice picks

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Its not necessarily the most aggressive axe on the market, but it will get you through basically anything you throw at it. Ive taken it ice climbing and mountaineering in Utah and Colorado and this thing has held its own. Its built beyond tough and can haul my ass up anything that Ive thrown at it. And believe me, Im packing plenty of junk in this trunk.

Not seeing the weight for this item? Can you list it please?
