Description

Don't stop at your rack when it comes to lightening your gear. Grab the Black Diamond VaporLock Carabiner to shave even more ounces.

The Black Diamond VaporLock Carabiner checks in at an ultralight 51grams (1.8oz) for climbers who want to make their gear as light as possible. In addition to weighing incredibly little, the VaporLock Carabiner also includes a keylock gate for snag-free operation. Black Diamond gave this locking 'biner a basket wide enough to allow you to use a Munter hitch on ropes up to 9.4mm during climbs where even the belay device seems excessive (or you dropped it).

Having worked at Black Diamond and used their products for many years, I can fully recommend the Vaprlock to anyone. I've seen them being made, go through QA, and have used them in my personal climbing adventures. They are light, durable, incredibly strong and the design behind them is second to none. There is a reason they win so many awards.

Lightweight, well shaped. It is excellent as a piece in an anchor or holding your ATC or GriGri in place. This is my go-to biner.

Ligthweight, easy to use. I use mine with belaying, as well as to anchor in a top rope. Easy to open and close.

and easy to handle. Fits a lot of ropes/slings/etc.

Not the best for belaying off the anchor due to a high friction. In all other respects it's a great locker.

Solid piece of equipment that gets the job done. Everything about it is sturdy and dependable. Lightweight and incredibly strong, I can fully recommend this biner for a go-to in your personal climbing endeavors.

for a belay 'biner i would want something a little bigger and with a round profile... that said these are super light and seem to clip/unclip smoothly in slings, bolts, or anchor chains.... now if we can just bring the price down a few bucks.

This would be the perfect racking biner if it was available in a non-locking version. As it is it's probably the best multi-purpose locking biner around - HMS safe and crazy light. Compact but not stupidly small with a large opening. I just wish they made it with a non-locking gate.

These are awesome and flashy, super light weight, but... for about half the price you can pick up a positron. The positron is less than .2oz heavier (4.971g), such a small amount that you'll make up the weight if you blow your nose hard enough before hitting the crags.

is it like very very small? Does the munter hitch with 10mm rope works smoothly on it?

Actually, the Münter hitch doesn't work very well on these because their cross section isn't at all round. It's closer to an I-beam shape, which is how it manages to stay so light, but it also means they're not very good for uses where they're seeing a lot of weighted rope drag. It is extremely light, and it's a great shape for a wide gate opening, but if you want to use a Münter you should get a beefier 'biner like the Rocklock. ;) Yes, but in case of losing ATC or whatever situation of not having ATC with me.. Ok but thank You for opinion. Sure it helps! So maybe I'll take 2 Vaporlocks for weight reduction and 1 bigger like Rocklock just in case of Münter hitch belaying - what do You think is it a good idea?

Mike,
The VaporLock works well for munter hitches with 10mm ropes though it will wear through the carabiner exceptionally fast as compared to a round bar-stock carabiner, such as the BD Rocklock. On multi-pitch routes I'll generally carry 3-4 Vaporlocks on my harness for various purposes as well as 1 round bar-stock carabiner attached to my belay device.

This is by far my favorite piece on my rack. Super sleek and functional carabiner. I just wish I could afford a few more.

There are lighter lockers out there (Wild Country Neon, Mad Rock SuperTech, etc.) But this is the lightest pear shape locker. I use this strictly for the master point and belay loop because it's munter hitch compatible. You can use these for building anchors or clipping into the anchor ... but like I said there's lighter and way cheaper lockers out there.
