Lightweight, easy to pack, and ultra-quick to assemble.

When there's serious distance on the day's agenda, the superlight design and bomber support of the Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Pole comes in pretty handy. With a shaft made of pure carbon fiber, the FLZ manages to weigh a seriously light eight ounces per pole, and still boasts a collapsible design and FlickLock Pro length-adjustment system. It folds into three sections with the push of a button and extends with a quick pull, much like an avalanche probe, for easy packing and deployment, while the FlickLock Pro system gives you 20cm of length adjustment with the flip of one easy-to-operate clamp.

It's no good if the whole package is uncomfortable to carry, so Black Diamond made sure the EVA grip and foam grip extension sit comfortably in the hand and hooked up a padded, breathable, and moisture-wicking strap for extra support and comfort. The FLZ makes short work of all sorts of terrain, too, thanks to interchangeable carbide and rubber Tech Tips that grip on rock, snow, and ice like it's no big thing.

The perfect trekking pole

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This pole is light and stiff. It's also a dream to go from packed to ready to use - literally seconds. Just slide and it all clicks into place.

This pole is set and forget - you can set the length with the excellent locking mechanism, and then every time you extend the pole it's right back at your preset length. What could be better? I love mine on the trail.

These are incredibly light poles. So much so that they make great trail running poles as well.

The only downside is they don't have a super wide range of adjustability for use with a low tarp. I don't have that issue but if you're have that use case be sure to check the adjustability length is going to work for all your trail uses.
