The only thing better would be having four legs.

Your truck and your dog both have four-wheel drive, so you might as well join in on the fun, you wobbly, two-legged excuse for an evolutionary success. The Black Diamond Trail Trekking Poles will help you stay upright on the trail, the ski slope, or the skin track, as they come with interchangeable carbide and rubber tech tips, low-profile trekking baskets, and wide powder baskets. The Double Flicklock extension system is simple, reliable, and has a new low-profile design to improve swing weight, while the padded strap, dual-density grip, and foam grip extension allow you to hold on all day without developing carpal tunnel or having to smash your piggy bank to afford new poles.

  • Sturdy aluminum shaft
  • Double FlickLock extension system
  • Dual-density grip with foam extension
  • 360-degree padded strap
  • Interchangeable carbide and rubber tips
  • Interchangeable trekking and powder baskets

Great for what they are

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These poles are a normal weight for a three piece aluminum pole. The work exactly as I would expect. I love the black diamond flicklock that is very secure and easy to adjust. The issue with aluminum is that it can bend. I was using one hunting deep in the back country and fell and it got lodged in-between two logs and the lowest section bent. After putting some muscle into it I got it back to straight. A carbon pole either would have sprung back to straight or broken. I was amazed how hard it was to bend straight! These are very strong poles. Don't be deceived by the picture, the ergo cork model has some of the best cork grips I have ever felt, they are fantastic.

Buy and be happy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used these poles all around the world for long distance trekking, snow shoeing and ski mountaineering. They last and perform exactly as you would expect them to, with great grip and a fast adjust with the flik locks they are superb for mountain traverses when the angle constantly changes. They pack small when it gets steeper still and the trek becomes a scramble or climb.

Does NOT come with rubber tips.

The description above says "as they come with interchangeable carbide and rubber tech tips", however the bd website is correct when it says " while our interchangeable carbide Tech Tips are easily swapped for our rubber Tech Tips (sold separately)" Not a big deal but I was hoping for rubber tips.

Great poles.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this to my father as a gift, but this is a review from my mother about the product:

This is the second pair of Black Diamond trekking poles I've purchased. They're replacing the cheap, flimsy ones my husband tried to use. The locking mechanism for telescoping the poles is far superior to the "twist and pull" method on his cheaper ones. The hand grips are really comfortable as are the wrist bands. I've used my original pair for about 8 years and they've carried me over lots of steep, rocky paths. With arthritic feet, knees, and hips, I can continue to hike (mostly pain free!) using these poles.

I've used these poles for a year hiking the Finger Lakes Trail and the North Country Trail and they have broken twice. Aluminum just won't hold if you trip and put weight on it. On the flip side I've had BD fixed length carbon ski poles for 3 years that i love and are still going strong.
