Good Trekking Poles for general use

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Black Diamond is a reliable name and these live up to expectation. They are good middle of the road trekking poles. Collapse to a nice packable size, light enough, good balance and comfortable grips. When fully extended they are solid and don't slip. I am 61 years old and 175# male, 6'2"

More expensive poles offer lighter weight, cork grips, additional features. These suit my day trekking up to 15 miles fine. Good for rocks and uneven surfaces with the Black Diamond rubber tips I added. I have not tried them with the original metal tips. Southern California mountain and trail hiking so far.

Solid Performance

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wasn't looking for anything spectacular in a trekking pole. I wanted a set of poles that were right in the middle of the road, and durability was my main concern. I am not concerned with having the lightest poles, or the most high tech material. These things perform exactly as I need them to, and they feel really solid even at their full extension. I (and my knees) are very please to have these along for longer hikes and backpacking trips.
