This thing is great! Super bright, but having the dimmer feature is very nice! Battery life is easily extended by the dimming feature and lock mode. I love having a waterproof headlamp to use up here in the PNW.
You won't regret it!

This headlamp is fantastic! Having both the dimming feature as well as the red lights, you can extend the life of the batteries considerably. Having the water proof rating is great for camping on the water and downpours. The final great feature is the "lock" feature. There's nothing worse than assuming your batteries are brand new only to find out your headlamp has been on all day in your pack... BD should make a child's size in this model.

I've been very pleased with all my Black Diamond gear, and this is no exception. I really love this head lamp and it is now my go-to headlamp on the trails or even around the house doing stuff at night. The adjustable brightness works great and it hasn't failed me yet.
very sturdy

This thing has been everywhere with me and has never let me down, I love the adjustable brightness of the light. Also the red light feature is great when you don't need a really bright beam. Its so lightweight I usually always throw it in my pack as a just in case.

Very bright if you want it bright, and able to be dimmed if you want something less intense. The red light is nice especially for watching insects (spiders!) crawl around at night without them knowing you are there.
Only con is that it is a bit heavy but not really bad unless you are very serious about weight!
Great multi functional lamp

Great head lamp. All of the functions are very useful. The red light switching works well and avoids accidentally going to white light while aiming at your mates face. Seems to be pretty waterproof, I haven't had any signs of it not being. Switching locking mechanism is also useful but make sure you use it or you will end up with flat batteries before you start. You'll need to learn how all the switching options work, commit the instructions to memory, there are lots of options.

Has a ton of different settings. Its pretty bright, haven't had a chance to put it to use yet but it seems like it'll be great.

After reading umpteen reviews and narrowing down my choices to the Petzl Tikka XP and the Black Diamond Storm, I chose the storm on a recommendation from Goat Staff and lumen power. Yes, the Storm is heavier (4 vs. 3 triple A) but not so heavy that it bothers me while wearing it. Thus far, I have only used it to get wood from the woodpile to the sauna and from the cabin to the car and a couple of short periods at home, but I can tell you it is BRIGHT. It has the main spot light and the two side lights, both of which are great, a red light which is fairly dim and maybe not bright enough to be useful and also about 73 other settings, most of which I would never need if I lived to be 100. The strap fits nicely and adjusts easily, the tilt mechanism on the lamp works well and I also like that the plastic piece on the strap acts as a screwdriver to open the battery compartment. I ordered the black version and within a week, my son ordered the green and white one for himself. It should prove very useful on Boy Scout trips. Hope this helps you if you're trying to choose a lamp. By the way, Backcountry staff was quite helpful on their livechat and even matched the sale price of a competitor's web site.

Don't forget lock mode...

Awesome headlamp! Extremely bright, and plenty coverage! A little on the heavier side, but I'll sacrifice the weight for the coverage at night. Another thing I will share is that power button is super sensitive. Took it to Joshua Tree, and Mt Shasta, both trips my headlamp was turned on, and left on while in my pack. Luckily I packed extra batteries! Recently discovered lock mode...great feature! ;)

Pretty Bright for such a small unit. The extra battery makes a difference in weight, notice it compared to 3 battery models. Only grip is power button very sensitive and gets turned on easily in pockets. Nice for red light, not so crucial.

You need to look into the lock mode. When you lock it up it will not turn on in a pocket or in a pack. I believe to lock it you hold the power button for 6 seconds.

Thanks, didn't see that in the instructions, I'll give it a try.

I purchased few months ago and used this several times when I went to Washington Mt. (NH) and others trails. When I used this for short time there is no problem but when I used this for the trail hiking for night time for few hours it got heavier and heavier.
Otherwise... It is really good and since it is waterproof, no problem when it snows and rains.
Amazing Headlamp

This is a great headlamp. It is super bright, relatively low on the cost, very durable, adjustable, and not to mention looks pretty sick. Best torch I've owned.

I used this head lamp while I was hiking up Mount Kilimanjaro 2 months ago. This headlamp was as good as some of the other models that I saw on the trail that costed over $100. Regardless of the temperature and through the rain, this headlamp held up for 7 days on the mountain. The different settings allowed me to use an appropriate amount of light without using unnecessary battery life. For the 7 days, where I had to use the headlamp at night and on the morning of the summit, I never had to replace the batteries. I would definitely recommend this head lamp to anyone camping.
