Description

Cold weather be damned—you're going climbing.

When most people retreat indoors to sip hot chocolate and do gods-know-what with their time, you head out to the mountains for some epically cold climbing sessions with the Black Diamond Men's Stance Belay Synthetic Down Pant on. With 80g PrimaLoft Synergy insulating your buns, you belay your buddy in total warmth even if the pant gets wet. A Pertex shell wraps up this wonderful warmth with surprising durability considering how lightweight this pant is, and Black Diamond coated the shell with DWR to help keep you dry while you climb up those icy walls.

The Stance features full-length side zippers that help you take off and put on this pant even while wearing crampons and that can help with ventilation when you need it. An elastic gripper softly seals out any snow from sliding into your alpine boot, and the snap closure helps you lay the cuffs over the boot. Black Diamond reinforced the cuffs with kickpatches for long-lasting durability send after send. And an adjustable belt gives you an ideal fit regardless of how many layers you have on.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've very happy with these as windproof, insulated overpants for alpine climbing. They're full zip and easy to put on with gloved hands. The pertex face fabric is effectively wind and waterproof and it's surprisingly tough, being less vulnerable to crampon sticks than my tweave and schoeller shells. Maybe because it's so slippery?

Anyhow, unlike some other insulated pants designed exclusively as mid layers these are 100% usable as overpants to throw on at camp, at a break, to walk in, I've even worn them up a headwall and they're no worse for the wear. A+++ would buy again.

I'm 6'1" 145 with a 29" waist and I'm happy with the small. Pro tip: belay loop through the fly
