Load the bare necessities into the Black Diamond Speed Backpack when you need to move fast to make it up and off your climb in a single day. Whether you're on a ridgeline traverse, 12-pitch ice climb, or grade VI rock route, the Speed Backpack's ultralight construction and minimalist design keep you moving. Its 2lb 3oz weight can be cut down to an incredibly low 27oz by removing the back-panel and single aluminum stay. This Black Diamond pack holds just enough gear for a fast-moving dawn-to dusk trip in both summer and winter.

Bottom Line: If movement is your ideal, the Black Diamond Speed if your backpack.

Light pack for light packers

By:

I used this pack on a carry over of Rainer's Kautz & descended the DC route. It was perfect, carried all my gear and didn't inhibit technical climbing. Had to adjust the straps to get the fit dialed, but that's a no brainer.

Looks cool

This pack looks great and seemingly has some thoughtful spartan features, but I tried both the S/M and M/L and just could not find a good fit to my back. The interal stay is pre-molded in a defined bend (which I was told cannot be reshaped unfortunately) that if not conforming to your back, feels awkward.
