LOVE this pack!
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I bought this when I moved to Colorado almost 2 years ago - it has never disappointed me! Fantastic for day trips to the mountains for a day of climbing - very durable and I also love the color... and the stash pocket.... and the hip belt.
Comfortable and durable!
Have been looking for a weekend backpack for city traveling/skiing, with a possibility of using it for mild hikes in the future. So something that's relatively light and breathable enough for hot days, but which is not too whimpy and can withstand cold days in the Northeast. I'm 5'5'' and have narrow hips, and the small frame and hip-belt fit me perfectly. The shoulder straps are amazingly comfortable and seem very durable and for sure a woman was a part of the team who designed it. There are no pressure points, no large pads that rub against your armpits, and it's so adjustable that I can wear it with a tshirt on or over a winter jacket without a worry of it fitting oddly.
BOTTOM Line: most comfortable one I've tried on, and the perfect size (I got 26L) for weekend/few day excursions.
BD Spark! Go buy it!
my girlfriend went to REI...(1st mistake)...and bought one of REI's packs..(2nd mistake)...after very little convincing of how worthless that pack was and how heavy, bulky, and fugly it was, she took it back to REI and returned it. while we were there i was browsing through the packs to kill time and i came across this beaut. the hip belt is the best in design IMO. it sits on a swivel and is incredibly comfy. i waved my girlfriend over and she about had a heart attack she was so in love with it. it looks great and has great features and functionality. i really dig the compression pouch on the front and the shoulder straps are super comfy too. i had to convince her not to buy it right then and there at REI. not near as good as a return policy as backcountry.com. plus they're way overpriced and have several employees that are oblivious to the outdoor world. "what? we have Black Diamond pack?...huh lemme check the computer....yups..looks like we do..." that seems to be a reoccurring theme when we stop in. but there are some good folks there too. anywho. REI didn't even have her size in stock, and i convinced my girlfriend that..of course..backcountry.com will have it in stock...and have more color options. she was sold. this pack feels like and functions like a top and front loader pack. solid back panel that helps hold its form and helps out those with back issues and is not a floppy design. i can go on and on about the pack but just know you need to buy it. the design is classic black diamond and if you're girlfriend wants to get a pack...i'd highly recommend this one.

Black Diamond Spark Backpack - Women's - 1587-1700cu in
I didn't even know that BD was coming out with backpacking packs. When I found out about the new line, I was interested to see how they were going to be. I previous experience with BD items told me that I could expect only the best. They didn't disappoint! This pack is ridiculously comfortable. The reActive straps allow your shoulders to move freely, while leaving the pack glued to your back. The Ergoactive belt pivots in a ball-socket joint which allows the pack to stay in place on your back, while your hips are moving. All the packs come in one size and the torso length can easily be adjusted to fit your body perfectly. The women's specific version has narrower shoulder straps to and accomodate for a women's torso. And the hip belt is angled to accomodate the larger hips of a woman. I'll probably get one of these for my wife.
And at this price, it's a great deal as well. There are many similar sized packs with inferior suspension systems in the market that are going for alot more $$$.
