Description

A versatile insulating jacket for high-intensity activities.

Layer the Black Diamond Men's Solution Fleece Hooded Jacket under a shell for added warmth while tackling alpine glaciers or over a technical T-shirt for lower-elevation cool-weather climbs. This versatile insulating fleece jacket ushers you through the seasons with its warm, wind-resistant, and durable Polartec PowerStretch fabric, and was designed with high-intensity activities in mind. The fabric is constructed of two layers: a wind- and abrasion-resistant outer layer and a soft inner layer that wicks sweat so you stay comfortable. The fabric dries quickly and is highly breathable, while its four-way stretch along with stretch cuffs support dynamic movement. Luxuriously soft chamois fleece lines the collar and the large hood can accommodate a climbing or ski helmet. While this jacket is well-suited for climbing, it works well for a range of high-intensity outdoor activities, and its soft comfort and clean look could make it an everyday favorite as well.

  • Polyester and elastane Polartec PowerStretch fleece
  • Distinctive grid-patterned face with soft, brushed fleece interior
  • Chamois fleece lined collar
  • Helmet-compatible hood
  • Stretch cuffs
  • Zippered hand pockets

The BD Solution Jacket Is Great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The BD Solution jacket is ridiculously comfy and the fit is amazing. The cuffs are really cool and make layering great. I am 6' 2" and the Medium is perfect, the fit does not seem too large as another reviewer noted (plus I am skinny 160 ish) so take that into consideration. Durable enough to slip off holds and run the fabric across granite and sandstone without any rips or fraying. At the front of my closets arsenal, for sure.

How does it hold up to abrasion? Can I wear it on an offwidth climb without worrying about destroying the fabric?

The jacket is going to hold up like many of the other fleeces on the market. It does have stretch to it which in my mind greatly increases its durability. I think the Patagonia R1 Fleece is super durable too but, it still rips when I push it too far. No fleece and not many hardshell jackets were meant to be weighted against a rock and then dragged under pressure on that rock. I bet you could get a solid few years out of the jacket if you climbed a decent amount, you might have to do some home sewing, which is great. If it falls apart on your first climb or within 90 days of your purchase send it on back, get in something else and see how that brand does.

I have ran the fabric across granite and sandstone without and rips or fraying. Holding up great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJlDRZxZlz4

Great jacket for the woods, and the bar.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I was weary after reading reviews of poor quality, but decided to take the chance after the price dropped under 100 dollars. I was pleasantly surprised with the build. Th fabric is good, and as mentioned, the zippers are fantastic. I struggle with smaller zippers during ice season in my gloves, but this jacket will surely not give me any trouble. I have used it as a midlayer under a Torrentshell, and it has proved to be very warm. As mentioned, it offers little wind protection. It's also sharp enough that I can wear it into town. My only gripe with it is the cuffs, I have enjoyed having them on climbs, but for hiking they restrict airflow a little too much.

Good quality but still need improvement

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I am 5'8 and 165 pounds, with a huge butt. The size I select is Medium. The butt troubles me a lot and most jacket with hip length will either restrict my butt seriously or slip up to the waist. This one works better than other jackets but still a little bit tight at hip, which I feel OK. The really problem pisses me off is the so called "plate seam". The string they use to seam is a bunch of micro fibers, which can be easily scratched by shape objects, even my nail. I give my credit to the major material but give 0 point to the seam work. overall, 3 stars.

Nice try, no cigar!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

I have tried this jacket in both hooded & non hooded versions. (size L for a 6'3" 175 guy) Both were much too big around the chest/waist. No drawstring to cinch up the bottom either. Sent them back!

Strange, because I have a L in the Co-Efficient hoodie, and it's my favorite thing in my closet atm. Looking forward to the new BD stuff.. i'll keep trying them!

Not bad for their rookie season

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Good fit, was skeptical of the cuffs but they are better than the usual velcro synch cuff. Used it today on a fall hike with 15-20mph summit winds and it wasn't the greatest wind protection as a standalone, but would be fine under a shell as a midlayer. Nice textured look, better and different than the usual polartec power stretch look. I said true to size but I'm right in between a medium and a large in most things, and I have this in large.

High Quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I'm wearing my Solution fleece right now and what I'm most impressed with is the detail in the design. The cuffs feel great and are low profile for layering. The toothed zippers are smooth and the metal zipper pulls are a nice touch. The chamois fabric through the collar nice and buttery. The jacket just feels like quality. There is a lot of fleece out there, but the Solution is as nice as you will find.
