Exactly what I was looking for.

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This leash is great! Does exactly what I wanted, which is that it keeps my axe attached to me. Wrist strap is comfortable and can fit around jacket sleeves. Easy to use and adjust. I'm happy with my purchase.

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Very easy to use, simple, hassle free. Not great for leading, as its kind of a two hand operation to get out of them. But they are comfy and quite cheap.

Eh - last review got it right. There are better options.

This is clearly not a leash for vertical ice climbing - way too fussy and difficult.

Even for alpine axes, it's kind of a pain, though it is light and simple. Mandatory two-hand operation, and sometimes it can essentially become frozen shut and then require a lot of force to release.

Ok, but there are better solutions.

This is an alright leash, but all told, its a bit of a fussy solution to a simple problem. I found the leash to be a little tricky to operate with mittens on, and the cinch sometime resists being released. My solution was just to sacrifice some security and not cinch it down, otherwise hand-changes take too much time. A bungee would work just as well, and I've also seen this clipped to the harness instead of the hand, avoiding the switch problem altogether.

        Top Notch

great leash...slide secure works well and is reliable...padded wrist is comfy...the best thing is the leash length...long enough to effectively switch hands on the axe when traversing a steep slope without having to swap which hand the leash is on...that is key...inexpesive option to prevent a drastic mistake of watching your piolet slide down a thousand feet or into a slope leaving you high and dry
