Description

Conditions and terrain never hold you back, so why should your boot?

Sporting a forgiving flex and featuring a variety of women-specific design features, the Black Diamond Women’s Shiva Alpine Touring Boot is your passport to serious freeride performance. Far from a dumbed-down version of a men’s touring boot, Black Diamond made the Shiva for discerning rippers who slay jaw-dropping lines both in bounds and out.
  • Part of Black Diamond's Freeride Power Series, this boot is designed to provide plenty of response and all-day comfort both in bounds and out
  • Women-specific fit features a lower-set and more voluminous cuff, an adjustable calf spoiler, increased ramp in the boot boards, and a slightly narrower Achilles zone
  • Triax Performance frame features a forgiving forward flex for smooth fore/aft power transfer and excellent tourability
  • A flex-rating of 100 maximizes comfort while still delivering enough stiffness for proper energy transfer and precise control
  • Medium-stiff Power Fit Light liner with Strobel base reduces weight for touring efficiency, is thermformable, and includes a Boa closure system for a precise fit and on-the-go adjustability
  • Rubber outsole provides grip in cold conditions for touring versatility
  • Includes Black Diamond's interchangeable alpine DIN-compatible sole blocks (AT-lugged blocks sold separately)

Great boots. Love the versatility of them. They are perfect for hiking uphill, to side country or back country terrain or just for après. But you don't lose the performance of an aggressive woman's boot when charging downhill. Would recommend. Just be careful about sizing as the shell sizes are not your typical ranges.

I personally love the color scheme - ranks up there with the Gea RS in my mind - though they could have done without the black bubbles at the heels...

The flex is all I could ask for - soft enough that even after a long day of touring, my feet don't hurt, but stiff enough to rip it up on the descent. That having been said, the BD fit just isn't right for my feet. I ultimately went for the Scarpa Gea (yeah, neon kelly green!) after trying these babies out a few times.

Pros: Large enough in the calf to handle my legs. Great heel hold - look ma, no slippage! Boa is awesome.

Con: the arch is extremely low/flat, so not good for us high volume gals.

I LOVED the original Shiva (the yellow ones), and skied them for two seasons with one minor complaint that the first generation liners packed out too fast, and BD has definitely fixed the issue with these (which I have skied for one season and am going into season two right now). I had to go through a bit of pain to mold these but to be fair in my review, I went for a half size smaller liner based on my experience with the 1st gen liners. I think it would have been a much more seamless process had I stuck to my regular size.

The Shiva is the only Dynafit or tech compatible boot that I could find to fit my calves, and while it may not be the lightest weight touring boot, I find it to be the perfect all-around boot that can handle a mix of in bounds resort skiing and day tours, and I feel confident in it's performance 100% of the time.

My only complaint now is with the color scheme... I don't know who thought the barbie pink-&-white/my-little-pony color scheme was a good choice for grown women... I vote to bring back the yellow!
