As the most versatile crampon in the Black Diamond line, the Sabretooth Pro Crampons stand out as a solid choice for everything from mountaineering to steep ice. The horizontal front points offer excellent shear resistance in firm snow while aggressive secondary points increase purchase on steep ice. Black Diamond includes ABS plates to reduce snowballing when you posthole up an alpine ridge. The Sabretooth Pro Crampons work with all step-in compatible ice boots. They get the job done for everything from Ouray ice to Alaska alpine terrain.
Bottom Line: Pick the Black Diamond Sabretooth Pro Crampons to take on all the winter mountain terrain you encounter throughout the season.
A little heavy for ski mountaineering unless you are doing some very intense ski descents where you will be on hard routes to get up!Camp makes a very light step in crampon.(They are called xlc 390)but they are definetley not as durable,or strong!
These are very solid and very aggressive. They are not the lightest thing out there but you can do pretty much anything in these; hiking, mountaineering, and even light ice climbing no problem. if you want 1 pair of crampons that will get you through the winter these are it.
no they don't fit the to the toe of the radiators very well - use the the strap option instead (ie. not the Pro) - I returned the Radiators because I already had the Pro crampon and wanted a boot that fitted my existing crampons. You already have the boots - so you have to get a crampon that fits. You can get by with the Pro but I don't think it fits the toe of the Vasque Radiator very well.

I started doing some winter mountaineering this year and the Sabretooth's have been excellent. Even my idiocy was thwarted by the Sabretooths, making them as close to idiot proof as you can get. The adjustable tension knob on the rear bail is really great for locking them down and fine tuning the fit.
The little "half points" behind the frontpoints were great for higher angled snow and increased stability. They are pretty light and were great on the snow fields as well as New England ice.
I'm looking for a general pair of crampons compatible with my Dynafit randonnee boots for use in ski mountaineering. Can you tell me if the BD Sabretooth Pro Crampon would work well in this way? Or is there another crampon that would better serve my needs? Thanks
Sabertooth is a great general purpose crampon. It will climb ice, but it is more designed for multi-purpose mountaineering. Double check on the BD website for compatibility.
Great crampons but this is more an FYI for those of you out there trying to figure out the big feet game. I have a size 14 foot and am therefor strapped for boot and crampon sets but the combo I've worked out is the scarpa invernos in the size 13(UK) with these crampons. And with the long bars added in you still have another inch or so for even larger boots.
yeah for sure! the sabretooth will work with any crampon compatible boot. BD made these so they are good for everyone, not just a couple kicks out there.
They should be compatible... If the Raichle boots have dedicated toe / heel welts, you're all set. If in doubt, go with the Sabretooth Pro Clip, which are compatible with pretty much any kind of boot. Hope this helps!
these go on super quick and stay on strong all day. Fit my size 44.5 LS Nepal Evo boots very well. Would buy again.....but these should last a long time.
I used these last season with great success. They performed as expected but not so great for steep ice. They are perfect for all other arenas of winter climbing and very durable. the edges stayed sharp longer than I expected.
Certainly can, but they're kind of an all-around crampon. If you're going to be using them for exclusively technical ice, you'd be better off with something like the Cyborg (http://www.backcountry.com/store/BLD0956/Black-Diamond-Cyborg-Crampons.html). It's worth the extra 30 or 40 bucks.
I had a DMM terminator for a while and switched to these to cover a wide range of outdoor use. WAY BETTER!!! I really like how you step in and then tighten the rear latch, that is a really sweet idea and is really easy to adjust. Super light, comes with the ABS (which is so nice and a huge plus) and just a great all around crampon. For glacier they are great, easy to move in, and aren't heavy. I haven't tried them on ice yet, I have heard they are great on ice also. Black Diamond has done great with this crampon, it fits super solid on my Makalu and VERY easy to adjust, no tools needed.
I use neumatic style crampons with AT boots... so I would say yes... Just tighten up a bit. and make sure it gets into your wells... But heck ya they'll hold. That being said... this will probably be the next pair of crampons i will buy!
