Charge your headlamp at the office or at the trailhead.

Recharge your Black Diamond ReVolt Headlamp from a USB charger from your car or laptop. If you're in a pinch and can't recharge (a.k.a. camping), throw some some AAA batteries in. Dial in the right amount of light with proximity and distance settings, or throw yourself a quick little camp rave with the strobe setting. An adjustable headband lets you throw it on over your helmet when you're out biking, and a tilt function gets you the right angle for seeing what's coming at you. The three-level power meter takes the guesswork out of how much juice you have left.

Disappointing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased the ReVolt while on a trip in the Eastern Sierras to replace my older generation BD Storm headlamp that died. The old Storm was great, the ReVolt is not.

The on/off button is really hard to find with light gloves on as there is no kind of bump to feel for where to press (as the old Storm had), which is a very small spot in the middle of the rubber button.

BD changed how it switches from the spotlight to floodlight modes. On my old storm you simply turned it on then off and on again and it would alternate between them each time. With the ReVolt now you have to rapidly press the on button twice for it to turn flood mode on. This wouldn't be a problem for me if the on button wasn't so difficult to find with gloves on, but because of that it makes it all the more finicky.

Another thing I found bothersome, although in practice did not really cause any problems, is that the beam angle is too high . I found myself using the ReVolt with it angled almost as far down as it could go just to have a comfortable downward light angle. Again, isn't an actual problem, but to me seemed like sloppy design that I would not expect from BD.

Finally, my biggest gripe besides the on/off button is the red light projection, which is a majorly important feature for me when I am photographing or stargazing at night as I need to maintain my natural night vision. On my old Storm light the red LEDs had a nice wide even spread, but on the ReVolt they are now narrowly focused and have a splotchy uneven beam. Just more sloppy design IMO.

Overall I found the ReVolt to be a disappointing deviation from the typically first-class design found with Black Diamond products. I'd like to try the new generation of the Storm headlamp to see how it compares with my favored old gen, and if it suffers from the same design issues as the ReVolt. Otherwise, I hope BD can learn from feedback like this to come back with better product next time.

Great headlamp for a great Price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This headlamp may not be the brightest headlamp but it will last you the longest! Plus it comes with a usb charger and rechargeable batteries that charge up super fast. If you're looking for a head lamp with rechargeable batteries or that are going to last you the whole trip with not having to charge it alot or put new batteries in, Look no further!

My go to headlamp

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I own multiple Black Diamond ReVolt headlamps and I could not be happier. I especially like the feature to be able to charge via USB which is useful for car applications as I will charge up the headlamp while driving to trips. The fact that the headlamp comes with both rechargeable and lithium disposable batteries is a plus. The total hours of light of up to 300 with lithium ion batteries is crazy.

Great headlamp

This is my second revolt and I couldn't be happier. Has a locking feature so you don't drain your batteries all day in your pack. Charges fast and come with a set of rechargeable AAAs and and set of alkaline AAAs. Way to go black diamond!

    Revolt, but not revolted.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Awesome! I've had mine for 2+ years now, have done easily over 75 dawn patrols, late nights getting back to the car from climbing, and alpine starts - and im still on the same batteries that came with it.

Super bright - i've even skied in the dark with it.

Also compatible with normal AAA batteries - just in case.

Has a simple and no frills "keep off" function - so you accidentally don't leave it on.

Charges off micro usb - compatible with most micro usb cords and charges in a couple of hours and stays bright for hours and hours or use.

    Great Headlamp

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This headlamp is great, it has a dimming feature which works well, there is a red light which can be turned on and I love the fact that it works with rechargeable batteries or can be charged with usb. It will be a perfect camping headlamp for the summer!

    Love the battery versatility

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Overall the headlamp has a good variety of beam options (standard, close proximity flood, and red) I wish the standard beam was a bit more focused. Having the ability to adjust the brightness of each is also very Best feature, by far, is the ability to use re-chargeable or standard AAA batteries. Overall, this is certainly one of the better headlamps I have ever used, and would certainly recommend it to anyone in the market for a do-anything lamp.

    Just Purchased A Second One

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There are only a few pieces of gear I tell my friends and family that they absolutely need - this is one of them. This headlamp is the perfect union of simple design and high-end functionality. It's very bright, but has a dimmer feature which comes in handy if you don't want to blind your campmates. The fact that you can recharge this via USB is one of the biggest selling points for me. It charges quickly and lasts for what seems like an eternity on a single charge. I finally purchased a second one because my wife kept borrowing mine and I just can't hike/camp without it.

    a campers must have

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

if you plan on doing any type of camping at all you need this headlight. its super bright, light weight, comfortable to wear, and looks great. I was glad to have the different setting on the lumen power levels.

Great for night time Nordic skiing

Great light for Nordic skiing at night - plenty bright to light up the trail far enough ahead to see where you're going, and with enough brightness up close so you can see the condition of the track. Plus it's plenty comfortable on your head so as to be basically unnoticeable, but stays put even when worn over a hat.

      Gets the job done well

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Strong light, good battery length and versatility. I like the different brightness levels in front and on sides for night trail running or hanging out at camp. Comfortable, dependable and tilts well. I like that it's rechargeable and the cord is standard, so if I lose it I can easily replace it!

      Not for trail running

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

      -Not bright enough.
-Does a poor job at lighting features in the trail. The features are indistinguishable, it's like skiing in flat light.
+Great for camping, hiking and all around other use. Battery longevity was good.

An awesome light in a very small package

I was debating what new headlamp to get to replace two petzls that finally wore out.

I haven't been impressed with the petzl lineup recently.

This Black Diamond Revolt is very nice and very light. It has the main lamp that can boost to be brighter and the two small LED lamps for close proximity, along with the red lamps too.

It comes with two sets of batteries. One normal set and a rechargeable set. It comes with a USB cord that plugs into the side for recharging. It also has an LED light on the other side to indicate the battery life and the lock out feature so your lamp doesn't turn on inadvertently in your pack.

$59.. I would give it a thumbs up and recommend it for sure if someone wanted to get a good all around headlamp.

For mountaineering I would tell someone to get the BD Icon.

        Excellent

As an active outdoors-woman who constantly borrows her pals headlamps, I finally decided to buy my own. I am thoroughly impressed! The dimming feature is wonderful, and saves on battery too. And the ability to recharge is excellent. The charging port is compatible with most android phones, so is easy to find a cord if I forgot mine. Charges well with my solar charger, and maintains a long lasting battery life (I use mine for 3-6 hours at a time. I couldn't be more happy with this purchase!

          Hard Usage

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am very surprised and glad with this headlamp, i use it several times, and just change the batteries two months ago, i keep the rechargables batteries as backup. About the photo: we leave the shelter (15748ft) on Cotopaxi volcano (Ecuador) at midnight, so the headlamp was turned on, before six hours of non stop heavy snow, and even frozen on surface the headlamp stills working, i cant tell the same about my legs at that point (19347ft).

          Hard Usage

          Best headlamp ever!

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the multiple light settings. The ability to fade from the brightest to the dimmest setting and select the exact light intensity that you need is really cool. It is also incredibly comfortable on my head. At one point, I forgot I even had the dang thing on.

          Unanswered Question

Will this headlamp work with Goal Zero batteries? I know it won't charge them, but say if I charged the batts on their own, would they work? Or is it just BD or standard single-use compatibility?
