Does anyone know the length of these probes when packed? Need to know if it will fit in my daypack. Thanks!

Lets see, the usable length is 300 CM. There are 8 sections so 300/8 sections = 37.5 CM, I can convert that to inches if you need me to. Be careful out there highwei, part of skiing is reading the terrain. This is even more critical in the back country where there is only you and your friends to help. Part of that is paying attention to the terrain and getting the information that is out there on the slope.

This probe is awesome - easy to use, lightweight, and fast to deploy. I highly recommend this probe for anyone looking for an easy to read, easy to operate probe. It deploys and engages very quickly when every second counts. The handle grip is awesome with or without gloves on. I can't say enough about this probe. Hats off to BD for making another amazing product.

Love this probe. I work as a full time patroler. We are required to do weekly drills and my last one was holding up great. Just bought 2 more. One to replace the one I lost, one for my second setup. I have had an issue with icing on the locking mechanisim. After use just make sure to dry. If your not packing at least a 300 cm you might as well be carring a pencil.

This is a great probe it deploys in a matter of second. You throw it out and pull, and its ready to go. I think this size of probe is the right size for a probe. It seems really sturdy when going through the snow in rescue scenarios. Great construction and it will last a long time.

I cannot understand the directions on the Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe 300 re. how to adjust the cable length. I think my cable is too long. I cannot seem to loosen the lock ring, even with 2 pliers. Then, I do not know which way is "clockwise". Do I hold the barrel lock away from me and turn clockwise? or toward me and turn clockwise?

Deploys fast, super rugged and locking mechanism is sweet. Might as well buy the longest probe you can, because who knows. Measurement markings make this probe super handy when doing pit profiles. Sling this puppy out and lock it up fast, no more lookin' like a chump during drills.

Deploys in seconds, locks pretty well, and is super light. I really can't complain.

I think this size probe is the minimum people should be taking out in to the backcountry, but that just me....

When I received this new probe I quickly practiced using it. It is extremely easy to assemble in seconds and has a real solid feel. I also like the extra length and grip at the end. Hopefully I will never need to use this probe but it is good to know I have a solid piece of rescue equipment with me.

This probe assembles super fast and easy. It's also very light and durable. The rough handle is also a plus, it makes is much easier to keep a hold of when probbing.

This probe assembles super quick and fits nicely into my Agent pack. It is also lightweight, but solid probing through hard snow. The markings are also easy to read. This is an awesome probe that you won't be disappointed with.

This probe is all it is hyped up to be. This thing is ready in under 5 second and its strong! Super impressed with this one just after some beacon training and I really like the markings that run throughout the entire length of the probe. Get this one!!

used this probe about 7 times while practising scenerios ina couple avy courses, nice length, and thickness doesnt deflect too much in chunky hardpack.
deploys quick and easy, i think it the inside laminated cord may detriorate quickly exposing the wire but we'll see.

With probes i've always heard the longer, the better. And this is a reasonably priced probe from a reliable brand. Is there anything better on the market or would this BD 300cm be the one to buy?

Check out my review below. This is one of the top rated probes on the market. The combination of aluminum and carbon fiber makes it very light, sturdy, and durable. It is really easy to assemble and the added length over many other probes is definitely a bonus. When disassembled it is no bigger than most probes and packs really well into your pack. You should go for it. It's a great deal on one of the best probes out there.

For me the probe to get is still the G3 Professional Tech Probe. Buuuut the locking mechanism on the BD Quickdraw is really fast, something the G3 lacks. IMO length is important, especially if the buried victim is using an avalung (increasing the time they can stay alive under the snow by up to 40+ min). I insist all my bc riding buddies get nothing smaller than a 280 for their probe. Once of these buddies purchased this and he really likes it. The only thing this probe lacks in alternating colors (makes finding victims easier), and a mushroom tip (helps the probe not stick to the snowpack and aids in glide). Other recomended probes would be the G3 Professional Tech and the BCA SR3.

Cliffnotes: 300+ is the ideal length for a probe. The BD Quickdraw is a good choice.

Im not the most technically adept person and this pole came together quick and broke down quick, what more do you need.

Anyone know what the segment length on this probe is? My G3 probe won't fit in the avalanche tool pocket on my BD Covert pack (it has 46 cm segments). Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing and even checked out the BD website. I wouldn't take this conclusion to be 100% accurate but based on all of the photos showing 8 segments and the overall length being 300cm, 300/8=37.5 ...the male/female connections are probably about 2.5-3.5cm so I estimate the segment lengths to be 40-41cm.

Just measured them. The segments are 16.25"/41.28cm. The end segment is a little longer at 17.125"/43.50cm. Hope this helps.

This probe is awesome with the little black cones at the top of each segment makes this significantly faster to assemble than poles with out it. Look for those cones on any probe you buy. I also love the rough sandpaper grip so that your hand does not slip on the probe while it is in use. You can throw this out on the snow, grip and rip and in a few seconds your ready to start the rescue. For the price this probe is awesome, best out there.

I've used a few probes before and I have to say the quickness with which you can go from packed to fully extended is phenomenal. It certainly has something to do with the little nubs on the ends of the pole sections. Might be longer than what most people think they'll need, but I prefer to be on the safe side of that estimation.

Anyways, comes with a little case, it's light, durable, and goes together in literally under 5 seconds. Probably more like 2.
