You go through great lengths to shave weight from your touring setup, so why not pack a strong, light carbon pole like the Pure Carbon Ski Pole? Black Diamond built this two-piece beauty specifically for backcountry touring by shaving weight in the handle and utilizing a wide 100mm powder basket for plenty of purchase in deep snow. A grip extension completes the package so you can choke up and dig this pole into steep slopes when your ascent turns into more of a four-point climb.

  • Carbon shaft material is ultralight but still stiff enough for big, heavy lines
  • 18mm upper and 16mm shaft diameters offer plenty of stiffness
  • Touring Series grip has dual-density rubber in the palm and a fluted interior for weight reduction
  • Longer grip-strap pull tab hangs open so it's easy to reach and manipulate with gloves on, and the wide strap evenly distributes forces across the hand
  • FlickLock Pro allows you to adjust pole length with a simple flip of a tab which unlocks the lower shaft (flip the tab closed to lock the pole back in place)
  • FlickLock Pro improves on the FlipLock design with a full stainless steel construction and a lower-profile shape, and the dual-axle design offers increased clamping leverage for security
  • 100mm powder basket helps you easily push through deep days

I got these primarily as an inbounds pole with the occasional sidecountry or backcountry tour. These poles are really burly and surprisingly heavy, despite being carbon poles. I wasn't really expecting them to be so heavy. Not to say they are the heaviest, but I've never used a heavier pair. The swing weight feels slow and lethargic to me. I'd trust them as a solid backcountry pole, but maybe I'm just picky, they're just a bit heavy and slow for my liking. Giving 4 stars instead of 3 because despite being heavy, they are extremely well constructed and everything else is great, so most people looking for a dependable, burly pole will like it a lot.

These poles have it all. They are light, strong, and have a large range of adjustment. Black Diamond has introduced a new flicklock this year which is very nice. I had a few issues with the old flicklocks freezing up or slipping but these are bomber.

Good adjustment options, good weight and strength. not a flexy little carbon pole. Solid. Grip and wrist loops are stellar. The second rubber grip below is great fro traversing or hitting side angles for good grip without adjusting your pole every time the terrain varies. Baskets are good. If you want something similar without the price tag, look to the Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles, same pole but aluminum rather than carbon, yet similar in weight.
