Warmth And dexterity? Brilliant.

The Black Diamond Prodigy Glove is almost like one of those know-it-all kids—too smart. The Prodigy's cold-weather prowess is due to both a removable Thermal Pro Hi-Loft liner and a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex insert. This Black Diamond glove keeps your fingers free with a 4-way stretch shell and a grippy Pittards Armortan goatskin palm. From shooting down slabs with the Howitzer to straight-lining chutes, the Prodigy's high gauntlet will keep the snow and wind out through the gnarliest conditions.

Having had a decent bit of success with both the Absolute Mitt and the Punisher gloves, I figured it was time to invest in something for those in-between days.

The S runs about the same as their XS in most other gloves - if you're on the large end of their size spectrum, consider sizing up, especially if you want to be able to fit a liner in.

Pros: Warmth - They've held up pretty well in down to 15F as long as I occasionally flapped my arms around a bit. Dexterity - this is really why I like them - it's hard unclipping leashes in mitts.

Cons: The liner isn't a standalone liner and a bit fussy to get back into place correctly and as such I only take them out to dry at the very end of the day. Not as warm as BD claims (not terribly shocking, they're gloves, its a fact of life).

Not terrible, not amazing: somewhere in between. I like them enough to ride them out for the rest of the season, but we'll see if they make they cut for next year.

I bought these my first year of patrolling, hoping to get a warm glove (my hands and feet tend to get pretty cold pretty quickly) that wouldn't interfere too much with dexterous tasks like tying knots. I talked to someone at a shop and he recommended these as being a very warm glove.
While the gloves were comfortable and seemed to allow decent hand and finger movement, I was disappointed both at the warmth and durability. I don't think that the gloves made it past the end of February before seams were splitting and palm was peeling off. While they kept my hands dry, they also didn't provide that much warmth.
When I talked to Black Diamond, they quickly sent me a new pair of gloves - I've been more careful about using these (I don't patrol in them) and they've lasted a few seasons. I often pair the warm and removable liners with a heavier mitten shell on cold days.
I think that a pair of Kinko's, especially sizing up and wearing a liner glove inside, provides about the same amount of warmth and more dexterity. That's my everyday, go-to glove now.

Sizing was spot on for me w/ a large giving a little bit of wiggle room using the stock liners w/o adding a lot of bulk to make for stupid fingers.

Warmth is top notch but relatively adaptable. I did notice my hands starting to sweat a bit at lower elevations/higher temps (above ~35F) but I only had them freeze up after getting sweaty a couple times at the top of the alpine after a t-bar ride to the peaks in ~15-20F w/ 30-50mph gusts. Once the blood got pumping again my hands were toasty warm within a minute.

Dexterity seems pretty darn good for as substantial as these gloves are. I can't quite type an email w/ them on like w/ my Hestra Ski Cross gloves, but these are also a lot warmer and waterproof.

The leather and shell materials seems pretty tough and shed water and snow pretty well. With the stock liners, these things are entirely waterproof so far. I would definitely have preferred the Goretex membrane to be bonded to the shells rather than the liners to add more versatility through the use of lighter weight liners though.

My big concern with these gloves is the quality of the stitching. It's coming loose in at least 7 spots on the gloves after only 5 days of use, to the extent that the thumb reinforcement on the left glove is about to start flapping around. Gonna take them by the local shop I got them through and see what they say.

Great looking glove, well made but, the XL size was tight on my fingers (Usually a L or XL fits me fine)keeping little air between the liner and skin, leaving me not nearly as as warm as they should be.
