Black Diamond Powder Baskets are a backcountry skier's wet dream. Downward facing teeth improve traction and minimize basket skating on steep terrain, while upward facing claws are ideal for pulling up on your tele-vators or heel lifters. If you live life away from lift lines and guys in jeans and rear-entry boots, you should own a pair of these. They'll make life in the backcountry that much more enjoyable (is that possible??). BD baskets are also easily removed when converting lower pole shafts into a probe.
Bottom Line: Finally, a basket designed for the backcountry.
My K2 4 speed's came with lame mini baskets. They arn't for the west, but these are sweet. Nice size, easy to mount and a soft, yet firm plastic should take poleing to a new high. I did by two sets, just to have a back up. When your traveling, there never is a good selection of replacements at the ski area shops ! These are nice, get em.
The Black Diamond Powder Baskets get my thumbs up! They fit the Leki 11 carbon series poles and the baskets screw on and off with some work, but the they fit well. These baskets are a nice size not huge, but considerably larger than the Leki originals.

These replacement baskets are similar in size to the originals, however, they are stiffer, and therefore are better in light powder conditions. I found that these baskets work better with the heel risers on my Silvretta bindings than the originals. More precise feel to them. Worth the money if your originals are a little soft!
If you have BD poles and you plan on hitting the snow, you need these. Its very easy to switch back and forth between these and the normal trekking baskets. Also, unlike other poles/baskets I've tried, these twist past the threads into an area without threads where the baskets essentially "float". I've had other poles where the baskets thread on and the threads end at the stop. The downside of the latter is that the baskets constantly thread off and easily get lost. With the BD pole/basket setup, you do not have to worry about this.
Yes these would make a great replacement. Putting ski pole baskets on is about as easy as putting on your shoes, you just put them on. Some shops will put them on so they stay in place using a box with a hole drilled in it (you then slam the pole in a downward motion, thrusting the basket on to the pole).
With these baskets on my Black Diamond Syncrho Elliptic trekking poles and my Atlas 1012 Series snowshoes on my feet, i feel like a caterpillar crawling over anything in my way!
Great baskets, but I have noticed that Black Diamond needs to extend the naming regime of their entire line of baskets due to the fact that they have multiple kinds of "powder" baskets depending on whether you buy these seperately or buy the carbon fiber flick lock poles. It becomes confusing for the customer, which can be simply cleared up by just a little bit more effort on behalf of Black Diamond's executives. Sometimes I wonder about these executive type people, but try not to. Because this usually leads to indigestion. C'mon folks! Do your job, it's not that difficult.
If you find that you will be using your BD poles mainly for resort riding, I would go with the Powder Baskets. They provide a little more surface area to keep from completely punching through on deep days. Great low price to pick a spare pair.
