Black Diamond created the Women's Patrol Mitts for sub zero days in the mountains when warmth and durability are paramount. Black Diamond used Pittards leather to reinforce the Patrol Mitts' shell for durability and grip. Then they added warm 100 g fleece insulation concentrated on the back of the hand to eliminate bulk in the palms. These women's mittens are completed with waterproof breathable BDry inserts to keep your hands dry, and a side zipper for easy on/off.

This is my second pair and they keep my hands very warm. The first pair lasted for several years, including 50 days teaching snowboarding on big mountain last year. I wore them out so it was time for a new pair. I like the newer construction better because they removed the elastic band on the back of the hand. However, it could be a bit wider opening to make it easier to go over my coat sleeve.

My hands get very cold, so I was looking for something more substantial without sacrificing dexterity. These seemed ill-suited for frigid Alaska temperatures especially for someone susceptible to having cold hands. I returned them without testing them outside, so I cannot comment on whether they were actually adequately warm.

so, why did you return them then? Why were they ill-suited for cold weather? When most people buy mittens they are not looking to play the piano with them on.
