Black Diamond builds their Patrol Gloves with durable, yet-supple, Pittards goatskin material to hold up to the tremendous abuse of patrollers and backcountry addicts. Skiers and snowboarders who put in over 40 days a season love the double-layered palms and Kevlar stitching. Waterproof breathable BDry inserts keep hands completely dry in all conditions from deep powder to spring corn. The Patrol Gloves use low-bulk Polartec Thermal Pro insulation in the palm and PrimaLoft on the back of the hand for excellent warmth that doesn't decrease dexterity.
Bottom Line: The Black Diamond Patrol Gloves' bomber construction meets the needs of skiers and boarders who spend more time on the mountain than at home.
These gloves are made from really nice, soft, flexible leather. The dexterity is relatively high, but these benefits come at too high of a price for me. They are not very warm, especially after a season of use when the insulation packs out. Furthermore, my gloves are always wet after a day of skiing, even when the skies are clear. Merely coming into contact with snow will lead to wet hands later. The wrist gauntlet is an awkward size as it is too small to go over a jacket cuff, but they're almost too bulky to fit under a cuff with elastic and velcro. The gloves are very durable, have a decent design, and a lot of potential, but I can't in good conscience recommend them for cold weather use. They could make good 40 degree work gloves, or belay gloves.

a warm enough glove when they're dry, but in any kind of damp conditions that doesn't last long. the "BD dry insert" is a japanese gore-tex ripoff that is not even remotely waterproof. spend the extra 30 or so dollars and get the Black Diamond sensei glove which is genuine gore-tex and always completely dry - even in a downpour.
-Removable liner: 0 turns. It's a work glove - that's what you get, not neceserrily a bad thing, just not what I need.
-Wrist fit: 3 turns. Great tight fit with elastic, I was surprised by a drawcord strap for a small gauntlet on this glove.
-Palm material: 3 turns. Typical BD burly construction, nicest leather of them all.
-Overall Construction: 3 turns.
-Verdict: 2.4 turns. This comes in 2nd place in the work glove category...granted, I only sampled 2 in this category, the other being the Cloudveil Tram Line.
SUPER DURABLE. got 'em on SAC for really cheap and they already paid for themselves two years ago right after i got them. suprisingly warm for pretty much a soft shell glove, until you wear them in. back when i first got them, they kept my fingers toasty down to zero, but since i've packed down the fleece lining, i find it difficult to get them down to 15, let alone 10. however, since i've packed them down, the dexterity has gone up significantly, and now rather than simply a ski glove, i find myself using them for everything i do, yardwork, working on the truck, bar-hopping, they've essentially become my favorite work glove. oh, and they are super durable, the goatskin really holds up well under a vast assortment of uses.
Super durable, grippy, bomber leather. I love the gloves, they are awesome skiing most Utah days...But honestly, once you pad the fleece lining down a little, the have such poor warmth quality that I can't recommend them. I actually wore through the fleece in the fingers after skiing 10 day, there are little holes at my finger tip.
These gloves are good for temps down into the mid teens if you are sitting around a lot, as in riding the lifts. On the skin track they work well into the single digits. You might be able to squeeze a few more degrees out of them if wearing a thin liner. The fit is good, the leather is soft and supple, and the dexterity is adequate.
First off, I don't use these gloves for their intended purpose, (ski patrol). I use these as my everyday snowboarding gloves. They are constructed very well and are very durable. The problem comes in when the temp. dips below about 20 degrees. I've found them to be pretty comfortable in weather down to about 20 degrees but when it gets down to the teens or below zero they do not keep your hands warm. If you are looking for a durable glove that allows a lot of freedom of movement, this would be a great glove. If you are skiing or boarding in really cold weather, often, I would stay away from this glove.
Going on my third season with the BD patrol glove and love them more than ever. I ski about 60 days a year and I make snow in the fall with these gloves so they see a good deal of use. The second top layer of leather is starting to really wear out in the palms and fingers and they really don't keep my fingers all that warm on a blisteringly cold day, but hey, thats skiing, thats just the way it is. Waterproof? Not really. Applying SnowSeal helps for a few weeks but eventually wears off. My patrol gloves are so nice and broken in that they smell like and old baseball mitt because they are made of genuine high-quality leather. I love these gloves, I'll have these things until the bitter end. (which may be sooner than later) Solid gloves.
They did their job, kept me warm in the spring conditions we have in Tahoe this year. Only complaint is the pull tabs. I ripped both tabs off on the first day out. Not the quality I'd expect from Black Diamond.
Gloves work great, fingers stay warm and the leather shell is tough. The nose wipe design is genius as I can wipe mine or my kid's nose...not easily done with any other glove I've owned. Work down to 10 degrees no problem. Below that, I'd use a liner or a mitt.
The gloves fit well, and are very comfortable. Looking them over, I think they will hold up and that I should be using them for several seasons. One day it was very cold out, in the single digits to low teens, and the gloves were not quite warm enough on the lift, but fine when my blood was pumping while skiing. These are good for temperatures in the teens on up, and for active use -- I would not choose them for sitting on a hunting stand or ice fishing.
They are nice gloves, but someone sent the wrong color! Light Blue and Tan instead of Pearl & Gray-not gonna cut it with a 19yr old Dude! Good thing no snow in Ohio yet! Like that you sent the correct ones before we even sent back the wrong ones and also that you emailed a return postage label in minutes!
I was extremely disappointed when I wore these gloves for the first time. I expected them to be reasonably waterproof, but they are not. Water seeped in from all angles, and the insulation packed out after two uses. Don't expect to wear these for a full day without sticking a hair-dryer in them!
Having recently received my new Black Diamond Patrol Gloves, I am impressed with their Warmth, Durability and Dexterity. While my old work gloves worked alright for a while out on the slopes, these are a huge upgrade without looking too technical- not to mention they cost less (I think I would be hard-pressed to find another glove for this price that performed as well). I am an experienced online shopper and I haven't found a better website to buy all the great gear I need- chalk this purchase up as another excellent shopping experience with this company! Thanks y'all, keep Rocking!
