These are almost like a quiver item. You would need heavier crampons for anything more serious than a "likely snow crossing," but I think you could also fill in the bottom end with something like YakTracks or some sort of spikes that attach to hiking boots or shoes.
The product itself is great, as you can almost always expect from Black Diamond, but is somewhat limited in its application.
Anyone know if these fit a size 13 (EU 47) boot? Thanks.

these are excellent for snowy and icy conditions. My favorite use is hiking out of Yosemite Valley when the trail is well trod and slippery as hell. Without these 1 pound crampons, I'm sliding all over the place, and with snowshoes, I'm sliding all over the ice and other people get all butt-hurt for hogging the narrow trails.

I've used these for several glacier and snow climbs (Hood, Shasta, etc.) and they are great. I love the light weight, and they're pretty burly. I wouldn't use them on steep ice, but their weight makes them idea for less extreme routes. They fit pretty well on my mountaineering boots, even without step-in bindings. If the route isn't super technical, I grab these before my Grivel G12s.
