my first harness

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After several years of renting gear I earmarked a portion of my budget for my own climbing equipment. This is certainly something you want to try on in store. Be sure once the straps are tightened that you still have the necessary excess length beyond the fasteners for safety. I myself find it comfortable around the legs, and the mesh inlay on the hip belt is great. Everyone's different, try it on in store to make sure it's a fit you can, quite literally, be comfortable with. Great blend of economy and quality.

Hurts my special place, its not yellow

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used this harness for a year for indoor sport, and outdoor multi-pitch trad / alpine.

The 'sulphur' is really a chartreusse, or a neon green/yellow - the online images are deceiving.

It tends to ride up against my crotch in an uncomfortable way. I once caught a fall, and had a funny walk for a day. Despite this, I kept on with the harness, thinking I would get used to it.

I'm returning it, for the sake of my future children. I feel the Petzl Sama is MUCH more comfortable but only a bit heavier. And the momentum isn't particularly light either for the discomfort.

How does this compare to the BD Aspect ?

Best Answer Responded on

So the Aspect is a little heavier and has some more abrasion resistant nylon to handle more outside year round beating. It has ice clipper slots so it can do that as well which. I would put the Momentum harness into a 3 season deal and probably not use it ice climbing much for the lack of ice slots.

Keeping it comfy while keeping it safe

Great all around harness Iv used it on regular sport routes at the gym and even on some ski mountaineering adventures! For the price you can't beat it!

While there's nothing too special about this harness, it fits really well and gets the job done!

Pretty good

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For the cost, this harness is about the best you can find, and it's doing the job it's supposed to do as well as being very fast to put on, but it is not the most comfortable one out there. Overall, I definitely recommend this product for any novices to intermediate climber.

Can't beat the quality and price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great harness. Not the most comfortable option out there (see other reviews about projecting sport routes and taking whippers) but still not bad. Speed adjust is worth the few extra bucks.

alright

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Its a good harness but not for projecting sport routes. Its not comfortable to hang in or take big whips in. Other than that its great its easy to adjust and gives you alot of space to hang your gear. However you would be better off spending a little extra money and getting a petzl sama

The standard in everyday harnesses

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this harness for over 2 years now, and I love it. I've used it for everything, and I couldn't be happier. It looks good, functions like a champ and hasn't let me down yet. It's light enough to where it doesn't effect your performance, but you can also sit in it for a while and still have the ability to make children in the future. As far as a day-to-day gym harness, this in my opinion, is the perfect harness. It's cheap, easy to take off and on, durable, and moderately comfortable. If you're shopping around for your first harness and you see the BD Momentum at $45, don't buy it (like I did). I would say spend the extra $10 and save yourself the time spent doubling back your harness. It's totally worth it because after about 2 months of climbing in the gym, you will ask yourself "why am I dealing with this silly harness all of the time?". Be more comfortable, buy this harness and enjoy!

Great Harness

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This harness easy and great to use. I used this harness many times and I can't say enough that its pretty comfortable to leave it on. The loops are easy to adjust and you can get of of it pretty quickly. It is same concept like any modern harness with the belay loop and when you use a rope to tie it up. Also it is pretty light to be wearing it and holding it. For something this cheap, it's a good deal to get.

Simple, safe, and comfortable enough

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm on my second go-round with the Momentum, so obviously it works well enough for me. I primarily climb single-pitch stuff, which it's totally fine for, even if you're projecting something. The padding is minimal if I'm being generous, so if you spend a lot of time rappelling, hanging, or taking giant whippers, get something more comfortable.

Doesn't pinch!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got an awesome deal on one of these a while back and have been using it for any rope climbing I've been doing. Its super user friendly and doesn't pinch in any inconvenient places! No issues with durability either, really withstands good use (pulls and abrasions). Plenty of places to put different pieces of gear that may be necessary. For longer climbs I might consider changing to something a tad more comfy but sitting isn't climbing and unless you're sitting in it its barely noticeable.
