Speed Adjust buckles let you fit the Black Diamond Men's Momentum SA Harness in seconds, so you spend more time climbing and less time messing around with your gear. As an added safety feature, the Momentum SA Harness does not need to be doubled back. Four molded gear loops provide plenty of racking space on this Black Diamond harness. Whether you're gearing up for a summer sport pitch or getting on an ice route in the winter, this harness adapts to meet your needs.
Bottom Line: Whatever type of climbing you love to do, do it with Black Diamond's Momentum SA Harness.
Love this harness. It's light, has everything I need for sport climbing and is small enough to go underneath my ski pants when I'm shredding Alaska. It's about as versatile as I am.
This harness has everything I love about the BD momentum AL, plus an awesome speed adjust system on top of that. If you don't want to throw down an extra $10, the momentum AL is fine, but I think the SA buckles are well worth the money.
Pros: Speed Adjust Super comfortable Great adjustability <--totally a word Bomber gear loops Chalk bag loop Durable/strong Mega safe Light enough Looks tight Easy on the wallet
Hey, I am trying to figure out what size I need. I read that the medium fits a 30-33 in. waist and the large fits a 33-36 in. waist, is this accurate? I would normally ware a 30, but i wasn't sure if i should get the large instead of the medium. Any input would be helpful. thanks

I really love this harness. This is my third and favorite harness (previously owned a normal BD momentum and phoneix)and it fits me prefectly. The chalk bag loop on the back is always a nice convenience and the harness feels well constructed and safe. I ordered the black and it looks like something they would use in splinter cell! BUY IT NOW!
This is a great harness for the money. Apart from the AL, it's one of the cheapest harness's out there, and it's made by BD, so you know it's damn safe. The speed adjust buckles work great, they're incredibly easy and hassle free. This harness also has some great gear loops and it's super comfortable on top of that.
Like with many harness's make sure it fits right, I got a medium and I have to cinch it all the way down, but a small was pretty tight on me, so if you're in between two sizes try both out thoroughly to find the right fit.
It is a very comfortable harness, and the price point is hard to beat. More importantly, the speed buckles are WELL WORTH the extra ten dollars. They are much easier to tighten than the normal buckles, which not only speeds you up, it also allows you to cinch the harness down to the perfect level without having to fight to double back the strap. Also, the buckles being doubled back already prevents careless mistakes tightening the buckles, which is never a bad thing.
I have used it in the climbing gym. Easy to tie into. Have also used it for work in rescue classes where we had to swim in rivers and boulder over rocks in Yosemite....It held me fine and was pretty comfortable. The harness is pretty cheap as well. Probably a good choise if your just geting into climbing.
Hello all... How would this harness compare to the Metolius Deluxe Men's Harness... I am a beginning climber looking for my first harness... the Metolius is more $$ but seems beefier (does that mean safer and more durable?)... the BD is less $$ but seems like it is easier to take off for bouldering routes. I am living in FL right now so am only climbing indoors... which would be more appropriate. Thanks.
If you need to hang out in your harness all day the momentum is perfect. The speed adjust buckles are really nice, and super easy to use. This is the comfiest harness I have owned, and for the money you cant beat it!
The other good thing about getting this harness for ice climbing is that the leg loops are adjustable, where many around this price range are not. No big deal if you're always climbing shoes and shorts/pants, but if you have bulky boots and thick pants on this will help make the leg loops more comfortable.
This harness would be fine. The BD top of the line "ice climbing" harness is the Xenos. The Xenos has water-resistant nylon, 6 ice clipper slots, and uses the Kinetic Core technology. That's the difference between Xenos and the Momentum. None of these features are going to make a difference on how you climb. This harness is actually lighter than the Xenos.
I absolutely love this harness, It is such an improvement over the rental stuff you get at the gym, and now I'm one step closer to climbing at the crags with my own stuff. The camo print is soemthing different and it looks cool, and the SA system works like a charm. The harness is very comfortable as well; it has great padding in the back and around the legs so your fall feels even safer. The loop on the back rocks for a chalk bag, and the gear loops are great as well. A very strong and durable option for an all around harness. Thanks Black Diamond!
I have spent much more money for a harness before, and they don't come close to this one. This is the most comfortable harness I have ever owned. It goes on super fast & feels great. Look no further, this one does the job and keeps you safe.
Really enjoyed using this harness even though it has only been for a couple times indoors so far. The speed adjust ability is really nice and easy to use. The only complaint would be that it isn't as breathable as some other harnesses that I have used but for the price it is amazing. Definitely worth the forty bucks I spent.
Sure. The padding is shaped slightly differently on men's and women's harnesses, but other than that, it should be fine. Just check the sizing chart to see if it'll fit your waist.
this harness fits great and has good adjustability and quality. this is my first harness and its proved to be really versatile and works great for all the climbing i have done so far and i think i will have this harness for a long time to come
Black Diamond does it again! fits great works better. i use this alot at the momentum indoor gym in UT and i feel safe climb after climb. it comes of quick when i wanna hit the boulders and back on for the wall.
hello sirs , i am withthe boy scouts of america and work there in copr and water front i am looking buy a climbing harness but dont know size to get i wear a 38 pants size but squeece into a 36 - what size do you remmcond to get i am thinking xlarge but relly need to know thank you for your input in this matter
They fit smaller I find, so the X-Large is at least what you need. I am a 36/34 waist, and I have an XL, but I like to have a good amount of extra on the double-back. You will be able to get by with the XL though, with room left.
I used this harness on a 3000 ft rappel down Angel Falls, it is very confortable considering we spent two days comming down on 13 rappels total. It is light and a solid buy. Very well priced.
This harness is great for doing anything you want. I am so glad it was on sale when I went shopping for my first harness because it works great for gym/rock/ice/you name it. There might be more comfortable/lighter/whatever else harnesses out there, but this has more than $60 dollars worth of all those things in my opinion.
The buckles are worth it for safety factor alone, but it really is very convenient, and great when your partner says "doubled back? oh..." and then looks at their own harness sadly. The adjustable leg loops allow lots of warm clothes, and the four gear loops are there in case you need to rack more than just quick draws. The rear straps are quick release, so don't turn down that chili the night before your climb, and the rear haul loop is full strength (12 kN). There's enough padding to hang for a little while, and the quality seems to be what you'd expect from BD. I'll be sure to come back and rant if it falls apart too soon.
The absolute best part of this harness, however, is the crazy camo color it's offered in. It's one of like 3 harness that isn't some neutral, simple color, or black. Good for Black Diamond, I'd probably give it 5 stars for that alone.
This is a great harness whether you're just getting into climbing, or a seasoned veteran at the crag. The speed adjust buckles make it super easy to slip the harness on and off, but it's comfortable enough that I usually just wear it most of the day from crag to crag. The gear loops are solid as well, coated with a stabilizing plastic to retain its rigidity. I am 5'9" 155lbs with about a 30 inch waist and the medium fits me perfectly. A great harness for anyone, especially at the price.
I'm trying to decide between this BD Momentum Speed and the Singing Rock Balance II. The Balance also has the "rock and lock" buckle system, their term for speed adjust. So can anyone compare between the two harnesses? Comfort, buckle ease, etc..?
I have used both and they are just about 6's. The only real advantage is that the rock and lock can disconnect completely, allowing for easier on and off especially when wearing layers.
I really don't have anything negative to say about this harness. Have been using it for a several weeks now and though I haven't spend a whole day hanging in it, I do find it to be very comfortable (hardly notice it when I'm just walking around). It's also very easy to get in and out of thanks to the speed adjust buckles. I'll be honest, I"m not sure what separates this harness from much more expensive rigs, but the BD Momentum SA services every circumstance I can imagine myself in (gym, rock, ice), so I'm not sure why one would pay more.
Only gripe is that I'm positioned right in between sizes L and M with a 32" waist. I opted for the large because I heard they run small and wanted to give myself the option of wearing over layers. It fits, but I have to cinch it about as tight as it will go.
For what it's worth I too have a 32" waist and when wearing ice climbing gear I can barely get the minimum 3" strap tails, especially on the leg loops. In gym clothing I can tighten it adequately, so it sounds like a toss up if you're between sizes, and maybe depends on what you do the most.
This harness is really solid, and extremely comfortable to wear all day. I love the speed adjust buckles as they are really easy and simple to put on and adjust. Definate buy!!!!
Really comfortable, great price, and thanks to the speed adjust, can be put on in literally a matter of seconds. I'll never use another harness, never uncomfortable, really secure and looks great! Best harness available on the market.
This was my first harness and I was debating between a few different ones and I must say I am extremely happy I chose this one. It's extremely comfortable and SUPER FAST to slip into/out of. Also, it's light and the padding is soft and lovely to touch. The color (I got the camo) is awesome and looks cool and original. I definitely recommend it!
Fits great (normally these are too big on me) great spots for tools and if your a sailor (like me) there is a great elastic spot for a fid or marlin spike.
Byron,I wear size 30 for pants, slacks, jeans, and shorts and take a M in this harness. Would describe the fit as pretty true. Mahalo, Sumo--------------It was right on for me. Just remember: measure your true waist, not where your pants go, and measure over any clothing you're planning on climbing in.
This harness is very light and doesn't get in your way. The buckle system is sweet, like the description says - much faster than the traditional "O is for open, C is for closed" doubling back system. Just thread it through once, tighten, and you're good to go. To loosen, just pull up on the tab. Super fast. I love this harness. The gear loops are great, the chalk bag loop is great, and the adjustable leg loops are great. Also I don't know why others have said that the gear loops look cheap. They really don't.. they just have like a clear plastic covering over them to make them a little more rigid so it's easier to clip gear to. No biggie, and they *are* built well, just like the rest of the harness.
Great harness for the price, definitely worth the money for the speed adjust/double-back feature. I have to have a leg adjust and this is a deal for that feature. Plenty of gear clip-ins and a great beginner to intermediate. Highly recommend for gym or outdoor climbing.
New to climbing and this harness is very easy to use. Everything adjusts smoothly and simply. The harness is secure and comfortable, seems durable as well. Would definitely recommend, great for beginners.
I have the camo harness and it's awesome. It's stylish and definitely stands out amongst the crowd. It's also light and is very well constructed. Feels secure and the speed adjust makes putting on and taking off a snap. Makes transitioning to the bouldering section a breeze. If there is one con, it's that the straps for the leg loops are somewhat short because I have muscular thighs. Seems like they're made for thinner dudes. The waist fits perfectly with the minimum 3" excess length. All-in-all, a great harness.
Hey bro, i have the same problem with muscular thighs, i wear about a 32 in jeans, but my thigh measures about 25", would you recommend the medium or large
A great harness, i go to the wall at least 3 times a week and this works out perfectly. It's light so when boldering you cant even tell it's there. I spent the extra 10 bucks and got the speed harness and it's worth it. Very nice fit when belaying someone.
I've taken this harness up about 15 routes now and I gotta let you know, it's awesome! Really, you open up the buckles, slip it on, cinch her down and get up there. I thought I might regret this purchase, because I had a functioning harness, but I haven't. I'm stoked every time I go to put it on.
Comfortable and fast to put on. I do not climb rock, but use this to climb trees. Arborist saddles cost too much for me. This harness is exactly what I am looking for, and the price is great.
This harness is gerat! It is very light, easy to use, and the straps are adjustable. I have bigger quads but a small waist and this fits like a glove. I would buy again.
The bottom line is the price is right. If you're just getting started this is a great harness that will last you years, and after you decided to upgrade keep it around so you can take freinds out. It isn't the most comfortable harness but it is not meant to be. If you are spending hours on a wall then you already know that this is not the harness for you.
This is a great harness especially for the money. It is comfortable and adjusts really easily with all the gear loops you will ever need. The speed adjust functionality is well worth the extra $10 bucks. I have a 34" waist and large is perfect for me.
The Black Diamond Momentum Speed Adjust Harness is best of both worlds, comfortable & affordable. The speed adjust is not only convenient but is a safety feature because it will be double backed every time. The Momentum harness works great from desert sport climbing with shorts & a t-shirt to alpine climbing with a parka. I recommend this line of harness to friends getting into climbing, and experienced climbers will be happy with this harness.
This is an excellent harness! Adjustments are quick, and ideal for those who share harnesses often among friends. Very comfortable and the wired gear loops are a definite advantage.
The Speed Adjust, I think, is worth the price. Why? It is quick to get the harness on and tightened up, whereas the regular can be a hassle to double back (but always make sure you know how to double-back when securing your harness, obviously). Also, the leg straps are symetrical (a good thing), whereas some harnesses have one way over on your leg and the other right in the middle after you tighten the harness. Hopefully that makes sense.
Love this harness. It's light, has everything I need for sport climbing and is small enough to go underneath my ski pants when I'm shredding Alaska. more...
This harness has everything I love about the BD momentum AL, plus an awesome speed adjust system on top of that. If you don't want to throw down an more...
