Great Beginner Harness
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This harness is great for anyone looking to buy their first harness. For the price of $55, you simply cannot beat it. I've used some of the more expensive harnesses that black diamond makes such as the chaos, and this one is feels almost the same to me. This harness has super comfortable leg loops and a comfy waist belt. The buckles are nice because they are auto doubled back so you just have to pull to tighten it. Its very simple and straightforward. So far I've used it in gyms and outdoors for sport climbing, and it works flawlessly. This harness is a great buy for anyone but for beginners especially.
This is the best harness i've owned.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
It's as easy to slip on as a pair of shorts and you never have to worry about the buckle being "doubled back". Quick to adjust, very comfortable and light. So far i've only used it at the gym...Sender One...
but will take to Krabi next month.
Flexible, comfortable, all day use
Believe it or not, saucer boy wore this harness for Gaper Day last year. No climbing was done that day, but the comfort and flexibility of the harness made it perfect to wear all day long, even when throwing sick daffys and sliding around on his saucer.
Great for climbing too, and comfortable enough to consider wearing snow-blading!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Comfortable, light, and perfect fit!
Great first harness.

This is my first harness after the gym provided ones.
This is a HUGE improvement over those harnesses.
The leg loops are super comfortable and light weight. They allow great motion. It is easy to tension (with two hands) or loosen them up (with one hand). The clip on the leg loops is made of metal (from the pictures I thought it might be made of plastic).
The waist belt is also very comfortable but the cushion moves a little in the front, getting underneath the buckle straps. This can be a bit uncomfortable when climbing long routes.
The buckles are hard to move, you need both hands to undo them.
The sizing is perfect too. I have a 40in waist and the L/XL fits with a lot of extra space.
The price is unbeatable!
Great product at a great price.
So far I have only used this harness for indoor gym climbing. I am extremely satisfied with how comfortable the harness is to wear, and feel very safe while wearing the harness. I definitely recommend this as a first time harness for new climbers, you won't be dissatisfied.
Great price and great harness
This thing is easy on, easy off, keeps ya cool and comfy.
Light and cool
I have only used this harness for sport climbing and it works extremely well. I have a 32" waist and I have the XS-M size harness. The position of the gear loops bothered me at first because they feel further back than what I am used to but I actually like their placement now. My draws, etc seem to stay out of the way better while I am climbing. The leg loop adjustments are perfect and adjustable on the fly. The two buckles on the waistline allow for a perfect "custom" fit. If I could add one feature to this harness it would be a loop of fabric at the closest end to the buckles to keep the waist padding from moving up and down which can cause a little discomfort hanging from a belay. Overall, this is the best harness I have ever owned and I will be buying another one.

I am 18, and really thin (I wear a 28 or 29 waist), weighing in at around 110 lbs. I am approaching the point at which I will have to replace my old harness, and I am wondering how this one will fit. Anybody have some input, or other recommendations for such a small dude? I will be using the harness for mostly top-rope and sport climbing, and am starting to get into some mixed trad. Whatever I get, I wanna be able to put at least 14 draws on it comfortably, and I want a full strength haul loop in the back of whatever I get.
Go for this one if you are into sport climbing because of its weight. If you just want a comfortable harness get a BD momentum AL but it will be a little more bulky.
haven't used it yet but like it's predecessor. it's light and easy to slip on and off
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I had the previous model and liked it so much I got this newer and more refined version. It's lighter and the belay loop is considerable more narrow. I always get a harness with a double buckle b/c I am always off center otherwise.
When single buckle just doesn't fit
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Every harness I've had before this has just never fit quite right. I have a really small waist for my height and for whatever reason gear loops just don't line up right on single buckle harnesses for me. Everything lines up perfectly and I'm not frustrated trying to reach my arms all the way around for a piece of gear that's supposed to be just to my side.
Also Black Diamond's gear loops have a rectangular shape that helps your gear not get all smushed together. Doesn't really matter when your sport climbing but I've found it makes a big difference when your trad climbing and trying to grab the right piece and fighting the pump.
Unfortunately the dual buckles come with a drawback; sometimes the buckle strap finds a way under the padded portion causing an annoying rubbing up against my waist. Not such a big deal but it makes me want to take it off hiking from one area to the next. That could potentially be very annoying on a big wall but I have yet to test it out.

I'm around 180lbs and have a 32-33" waist. Opinion on whether to go with the L/XL or the SM/MED size...and why?
I am 165 lbs and have a 31/32 inch waist and am in a XS/M size in this harness. There is plenty of room with the dual cinch option on this harness. Go with the XS/M size.
How would someone compare this harness to...
How would someone compare this harness to the Petzl Calidris Harness (http://www.backcountry.com/petzl-calidris-harness-mens)? I am replacing my Arcteryx R300, and cannot decide between these two harnesses. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
This BD harness has slightly less support area in the leg loops but more padding, it has two additional gear loops and a thinner, more padded waist belt. I own this harness and it is very comfortable and easy to tighten/loosen.
Small to Big!
I've had this harness for a little less than a year and love it! I am thirteen years old and pretty small, so it took forever for me to find a harness that actually fit me and had two waist straps. Before I got this, I was using the Black Diamond Kid Whiz, a harness designed for someone who was about three-fourths of my weight, and half of my size. It squeezed me until it hurt. I knew it was time to give that one to my younger brother and start searching for a replacement. I eventually found a web special for this in a smaller size and older version on Black Diamond's website. I bought it, knowing that the deal wouldn't last and I could return it if I didn't like it or it was too large for me. When It came in the mail, I was impressed. It fit me almost perfectly and was comfortable. It has lasted for almost a year without breaking, and I like it a lot. The only downside I think this harness has is that its straps are hell to adjust. They took me ten minutes to do the first time I used it, but when I got it on it felt smooth and natural. The gear loops are nicely designed so I don't have my quickdraws flying all over the place. If you are medium size or very big, this is probably the harness for you. If you're small, try and find the smaller version.
Eardley Canyon (Dry) - San Rafeal Swell, UT 6-9-2012
I took my new Dual Speed Harness on it's maiden voyage in Eardley Canyon in the San Rafeal Swell, UT. It was so quick to get on and off and was super comfortable that I forgot I was wearing it most of the time. It didn't dig into my sides when rappelling like my old 2 year old harness did. Everything was easy to adjust except for the elastic straps on the back (only needs to be adjusted once). I was a little dissapointed that I still had to use 2 hands per buckle on the waist to loosen it, but it's really not that bad. This might not be the best option for someone (female) with big hips and a tiny waist because the waist only gets so wide so you might have a hard time getting into it, but if your a guy or a woman with little to no hips then this harness is perfect!
Happy climber me!
Tried several before settling on this as my new harness; I'm a gym rat climber mostly and some outside cliffs/sport too. This harness is quite comfortable for what I do; I think for long sitting belays or setting routes, it's a bit light on padding, but my needs were a lighter weighted hardness, comfort for dropping 5 to 10 feet, easy in and out, easy to adjust, comfortable to sit in for ten minutes or so of constant pressure, easy loops for gear access, double buckle system to ensure centered fit, and this harness does all that really, really well and looks snazzy too! The double buckle system also makes it widely adjustable to fit a wide range of waists and the leg buckles are REALLY nice, with no hanging strap ends. The buckles are metal, not plastic and the waist straps tuck nicely into their holders and easily come out when needed. My only disappointment was to learn when it came that it was made in the Philippines, as I had hoped it was made in the USA or Europe, that info was never made availabe on any web site, only in small letters on the literature it comes with. Still, at least it wasn't made in China, I would have sent it back had it been!
This harness is very comfortable and easy to use. The back of the harness holds your back up to ensure your body is always tight against the wall. I could not be happier with the harness I chose! This is great for beginners and intermediate climbers.
I Love It!
I tried several different harness' before I ended up choosing the BD Momentum Dual Speed Harness. It is comfortable quick to get in and out of and easy to adjust.
keeps me centered
Comfortable, quick on and off, and my belay loop stays centered. Good stuff!
