The more time spent going up, the better.

Black Diamond built the Mission 50 Backpack for ice craggers, but it's plenty versatile enough to work in the warmer months, too. This upwardly-mobile hauler features reActiv XP suspension, which uses an ultra-flexible floating hip-belt to provide uninhibited mobility and comfort on the approach and the ascent, and fixed shoulder straps to keep your load from moving around and peeling you off while you're getting vertical. The Mission is supremely streamlined, but features PickPocket ice-tool pockets, a crampon pouch, and three-point haul system if you choose to pull your gear up behind you. The hip belt's removable, the top rope strap is stowable, and the thermo-formed back panel is designed to keep you comfortable when you're leading a front-pointing life.

    Perfect alpine bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got the older model of this, in red.

After a couple years of looking for an alpine bag that could both serve to carry truckloads of gear to base camp and reduce in size for summit bids quickly and without turning into an awkward empty potato sack... Not to mention a pack that works for a woman's body... I've found my match.

It's not the lightest pack, but it's durable and it's well thought out in it's design. I've carried 60lbs comfortably in the size small version, which is likely less than 50L.

    Perfect alpine bag

    Overnight or quick summits

Nice pack overall. Fairly accommodating of gear for climbing and hiking. The internal bladder for hydration is challenging to refill when bag is loaded so will often strap a couple water bottles to outside of bag. A bit small of a bag for anything beyond 3-4 days and have to stow stuff on outside of bag. Nice size though for alpine as it's not too big but will hold all the gear for a summit push. I have long torso and it fits well when fully loaded (35lbs)and is moderately comfortable

What are the differences between last...

What are the differences between last year's Mission 50 model (orange) and this year's model (blue).

It seems the new version has a new back panel (all one piece vs a vent area down the middle in last year's model).

Also, it looks like the ice clipper slot on the hipbelt has been moved forward (although I wonder if your ice screws will more likely poke you in the thigh).
