If you need a tent for adverse weather this is the one. Condensate is the number one problem during bad weather and the Mesa nicely solves the problem with superior fly venting. Just used the tent on the Green river in rainy 28 degree weather and the tent was awesome. No wet spots and after 16 hours waiting out a storm, we were very comfortable and dry. Paired the tent up with a two person sleeping bag and with nothing to do for 16 hours we are now expecting our first child this fall! Black Diamond rocks!!

Does the 32.5 sq ft floor area include the 18 sq ft of the vestibules? And, is the 92 x 58 inch floor dimension accurate? Thanks!

The floor area doesn't include the vestibules, that's just interior. And yes, the dimensions are accurate.

- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Took the Mesa up to Kite Lake , about 12,000 feet, two weekends ago. Very windy, very snowy. The tent did OK, but did not shed wind as well as a 4-season tent would, but it held up to some pretty intense gusts. My one complaint, but this would apply to any NoSeeUm mesh interior, was that the wind was able to drive the blowing snow up and over the rip-stop portion of the interior of the tent and into the tent through the mesh. I'm sure it saves weight, and adds to ventillation capabilities, but rip-stop would be my preference. I'm sure the tent will perform well in 3-Season conditions, but as it get's closer to winter here in Colorado, I'll plan on packing the Bilbler. Reliable Black Diamond quality. Hope it lasts as long as my NF Bullfrog did.

From what I've read about this tent the fly sits quite high from the ground. Has anyone had issues with dust and rain getting in under the fly? Examples where I would be camping..

I have used the tent every weekend for the last 5 weekends and am very happy with it.
Setup is super quick and easy with the central pole hub no fumbling around late at night in the dark like you do with Marmot's system with their tent.
Tent is very spacious at 5' 9" 150 I am extremely comfortable alone or with a partner, and this past weekend, even fit a third person without too much discomfort. It was cozy, but certainly doable.
Will update after some more wear and tear is put on the tent...

I have used the tent twice backpacking so far (two day trips) and absolutely love it. Its perfect for big guys like me at 6'1" and 220lbs plus a lady. Set up is super easy and weighs about the same as my REI quarter dome T2 plus, but seems to be much sturdier because of the central pole hub. Im pretty impressed by its actual weight considering how livable and sturdy this tent is.

This is a pretty good tent overall. I like that it has doors on both sides, and the 44 inch height is roomy for a two person tent. Set up is quick and easy, the single pole makes it easy for one person. It is a little difficult to zip the interior doors if you have it staked down tightly and requires two hands. The vestibules are quite small, and allow slightly more space than you need to take your shoes off. Also it would be nice if the fly came closer to the ground.

Just got this tent and took it out to J tree to test it out. Feels very spacious even with my 110lb german shepard, climbing gear and I all inside at night. Build quality is what I have come to expect from Black Diamond and is excellent! Comes with great stakes that resemble msr stakes. Although the tent is a little on the heavy side when compared to newer tents. I would feel very confident taking this into moderate weather conditions if I had too. I can't say the same for the Big Agnes speedhouse sl2 and copper spur tents I tried out prior to this one. Although the two big agnes tents were lighter. Their pole design was just to delicate for me to trust in anything but perfect weather. I had them fail in 35-45mph winds when the wishbone pole got inverted on itself and turned my tent into a flat kite. If your like me and need a single tent to do everything short of extreme 4 season alpine adventures. Check this tent out!

No one will ever complain about a lack of space in this tent. After years of cramming myself into my REI Quarterdome, I went with this tent for kayaking trips where weight or bulk was not so much of a concern.
At just over 5 lbs, the tent is still within backpacking range, though there are better comparable tents on the market for solely this purpose.
My big complaint is the rain fly. It is stubborn to get on. Once on, it takes a lot of work to properly align it. Little velcro tabs are available to help you with this, but I think the designers could have done a better job of it. (i.e., like providing tabs for the poles that are located over the entryways.) In addition to this, the vestibules are sparse for space. If BD were to address these two issues, I would ask that they also consider looking at the ventilation again. There is room to improve. REI's quarterdome has a top vent that is really handy.

If you are looking for a light 3 season tent for backpacking then i would check out the Big Agnes tents they are light but not as sturdy and spacious as this tent. if you prefer your tent to be more sturdy i would sugjest going with the Black Diamond tents. They have 3 season tents and 4 season tents for bigger, more serious, mountaineering trips.

I have owned this tent for less than a year; I have used it probably a half dozen times backpacking. I always have it staked down and guyed out properly and have noticed that the tent leaks the last couple times I have used it. It is not a major leak but water is coming in from the top. Should I purchase silnet and apply it to the rainfly? I am confused on the answers that were provided. Thanks.

Most tents tend to leak somewhere on some seams after a bit of use. Get some seam sealer and re-cover everything.

Less than a year? Return it. It should not leak, unless you set it up improperly.
Great Design!

This tent is pretty fantastic. Its lightweight, SUPER easy to set up, and it vents really well. The single pole design is not only simple to set up, but is incredibly sturdy. I used it for a recent trip to Southern Utah, and while most other tents around were whipped around in the high winds, this puppy stayed stable. The only negative aspect of this tent is that some might find it a bit too "cozy" for 2 people with full gear.
