  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love these skiing and for once my hands were not cold despite wind and some of the coldest temps I remember skiing in. One day was -20 with wind chill and all I had to do was throw in hands warmers. Rest of the days when it was slightly warmer did not even need the warmers. They appear pretty durable too because I have not noticed any wear. I use them while snowshoeing too and my hands are almost too warm at times. Were amazing until I lost them....looking for another pair

Do you think you will be getting any more of these anytime soon?

This late in the winter season its pretty unlikely that Black Diamond will send us more of these mitts. Just like how stores start prepping for Christmas the day after Halloween, we will soon be getting our spring and summer shipments in from our vendors.

Everything I expected

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought these because I was tired of my fingers freezing while skiing. The price has always deterred me in the past and I have tried less expensive gloves and mitts. Worth every penny because I was finally able to spend all day on the slopes. I usually ski in Vermont and depending on the wind it can get nasty at the peaks. I tried to use them snow shoeing but my hands were actually hot, which is something I rarely have an issue with. I hate being cold and they finally allow me to enjoy the winter. Worn them walking the dogs as well and they seem to be holding up great even with the friction from the dog leash.

For single digit weather

I just got my second pair. The loft in the pair I bought in 2009 had compressed and they weren't holding up to the coldest days. Granted, they probably had 40 ski days. My new pair is great in below freezing (-5F) up to 20F. If I'm wearing these on a 30F day, my hands are boiling. I'll switch to my old pair on those days, so this pair will last longer and my hands aren't sweating. I like the free index finger for dexterity and find the glove to be warm enough for almost* everything we experience in Northern UT.

Warmest Gloves! LOVE them....

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These gloves are super warm and keep my hands toasty in the coldest conditions. I would have to be freezing everywhere else to feel it in my hands. I love the removable high loft inserts and the trigger finger is not a bother at all. One thing to note is they run on the bigger side. I originally ordered a small and had to return for an extra small and I still have a bit of room in the finger area of the mitt. Being slightly big doesn't affect my dexterity or my ability to strap into my board though. I wear size 6.5 latex gloves, if that helps anyone out there. They are very good at not getting wet on long days in the snow and dry out overnight really well! I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again if anything should happen to these.

I have the Black Diamond Mitt and wore them skiing for the first time this year (2012) in -15 conditions. They were great apart from having a trigger finger liner, this defeats the whole point of having a mitt. My finger was freezing whilst the others were all toasty. I had to eventually squeeze my 'trigger finger' into the main finger department to keep it from freezing.

I get extremely cold fingers and toes to the point of tears and it feels like are being sawn off. I have to always use handwarmers.

Can you get full mitt liners that are as warm as Black Diamond Mercury Mitt 2011 so I can replace the liner?

Any other suggestions welcome too.

Wow, it sounds like you get really cold fingers - I feel your pain! As far as I'm aware, all the BD liners (including the Absolute Mitt, which is the warmest one BD makes) have an articulated index finger. You may want to try the OR Alti Mitt, which is arguably the warmest mitten out there and is rated down to -40°F.

You're probably aware of this already, but it helps a lot to keep your hands below your heart, keep your arms moving, and to pulse your hands (in a fist or when you're gripping a ski pole) for a few minutes to stimulate circulation. On really cold days (and -15°F would qualify) I carry a small thermos with me and find that an occasional few sips of hot tea really helps warm my core, which in turn warms my extremities better.

Hope this helps!

I know on the newer BD liners for these mittens they are made so the index finger area can be comfortably bypassed so that you can have all your fingers toasty together

Super Warm

I purchased these for my mother who seems to always have cold hands. Well after 3 days of skiing in 10 degrees and below (weather she use to fear because of cold hands) she thanked me saying that her hands were the warmest part of her body. These gloves have an awesome removable liner aswell. Completely waterproof and super warm mitten, shes veryy veryy happy with them.

I bought these for my fiance because in colder weather, her gloves weren't up to the task. Last week we were riding in Vermont in single digit weather and her hands weren't just "not cold" they were very warm! They were absolute ovens above 20 degrees. I plan to get a pair for myself for the super cold days.

Amazing I love it. These are the first gloves that manage to keep my hands warm. I can get about 100 days out of them before they break down. I am on my fourth pair.

Is there any difference between last year's model and this years?
