Description

Mega fat, mega power, mega speed.

A full-on powder monster, the fat and rockered Black Diamond Megawatt Ski soars across the deepest of snow with the grace of a swan. And it's intelligent, too, with a less pronounced tail rocker and hard-carving traditional camber underfoot, for when the pow sluffs and the hardpack surfaces or when you're billy-goating to the pow. The wide waist and shifted-back center make this surprisingly versatile ski easier to maneuver. Its huge turn radius, pre-preg composite, and a poplar core give it a stable, smooth ride at hyper speeds. Sandwich construction and ABS sidewalls give this ski turnability and edging power, don't you doubt it, even for a ski that lives for pow. This is Black Diamond's fattest big-mountain ski.

  • Rockered tip and early-rise tail
  • Traditional camber underfoot
  • Formula One 3D and ABS sidewalls
  • Poplar 3D CNC wood core with pre-preg composite construction
  • 125mm waist width
  • Huge turn radius sidecut
  • Power Edge edges
  • P-Tex 4000 base

Arctic all-round adventure ski!

Arctic all-round adventure ski!

The megawatt is my perfect ski. I tried the Justice and the Amps, and came back again and again to the Megawatts. I have 3 versions of them at this point. Some people call it a problem. I call it a solution. Perfect length, width, sidecut, and rocker for me. Skiing mostly in Utah, but I have taken them anywhere from west coast powder to east coast groomers to that weird in-between-winter-and-spring-time in Norway. I have some mounted with barons and some with tech bindings. great for both, but I will say i wish I mounted the tech bindings a touch back of where I mounted the alpine bindings for easier kick turns.

We had just skied out from a few night's stay at a hut in Norway and arranged for a pickup by a small fishing boat. Good times!

Needs more sidecut

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After riding a pair of the 12-13 model for a season, I was hoping for additional sidecut out of the newer generations. They're solid but could benefit a ton from a greater turn radius. Rocker is just right and so is the camber.

any changes from 12-13 to this 13-14...

any changes from 12-13 to this 13-14 Megawatt? I see the skin friendly tail bumper. What about rocker profile?

Responded on

The rocker profile on the Megawatt did not change from last year but they now feature an 8 mm ABS sidewalls and askin-friendly, concrete protecting ABS tail protector.
