A member of the Black Diamond 'Mid series, the Mega Bug Shelter is designed to protect you from the creepy crawlies in hot, dry climates. Easy to pitch, easy to carry the Mega Bug will sleep up to four people easily. This shelter has a waterproof floor, and can be used solo in really warm, really dry climates, or in combination with the Mega Light or Megamid in climates where a slight drizzle could ruin your night.
Bottom Line: You'd sleep under the stars if it weren't for the damn scorpions. Oh, ya, and the tarantulas. Don't forget the rattlers.
the listed weight includes the pole, how much does it weigh without the pole? I wish it came with the carbon fiber pole like the megalight comes with now (but not when I got mine)
I love my myd but it always was a drag in early summer when the bugs were bad. I would string up a regular bug net that you'd hang from a ceiling inside, but it was always such a pain.
Love this product...I, however, differ from another reviewer in that I feel it is quite heavy for what it is. This plus my myd weighs almost as much as my expedition tent...and the whole point of me using my myd is going light!

This is a must-have add-on to the fly if you camp in bug/mosquito-infested areas like Missouri in the summer. The bathtub-style floor helped keep the rain out during two nights of torrential Midwest rains and still allows stellar ventilation. (Bonus, total view of the sky when the fly's not on.) Also very light and packable yet still big enough for my 6'7" body plus wife, toddler and gear. Planning to take it on 5 days of backpacking with two other tall guys in Colorado later this month - it should work perfect.
I'd been using the Megamid shelter for several years with and without the floor depending in conditions and always wished for more bug protection. Finally the folks at Black Diamond provided the solution with the Megabug. I bought the Megabug right before a recent trip to Peru and all in the group (4 total) were excited to use the new backcountry screen tent. It performed wonderfully from high-altitude trekking to cloud forest jungle. I was impressed with the super-fast setup and high-quality details incorporated in the Megabug design. The connection of the floor to the netting walls is a comfort saver when four people and their gear are using the shelter. With the old floor and Megamid design, it seemed like body parts and gear were always leaking out into the elements and critters were always sneaking inI'm still missing a yellow tassel from my favorite climbing hat due to a salt-hungry rodent nibbling late night on my hat exposed to the opening in the sidewall. So thank you Black Diamond for another great lightweight solution...also, my brother-in-law was so impressed with the setup that you should be receiving a Megabug and Megamid order from him soon. Most of us never go camping in the rain, so if you live in a predictable climate, there's no reason for a tent. Now you can see the stars and keep your pack light.
