Load up the Black Diamond Magnum Backpack the next time you're blasting up a 15-pitch trad climb or down another trail. This beefed-up version of the Bbee Backpack is made with ultralight 210D SilNylon to reach a light weight of only 14.5oz. Two side mesh pockets and a front chock cord provide room to cram in extra gear while the inside is just big enough to hold your shoes, shell, water, and food. The Black Diamond Magnum Backpack rides high on your back, so it won't interfere with your harness or chalk bag when you're leading the crux pitch on your day-long trad climb.
Bottom Line: On the trail, or above it, the Black Diamond Magnum Backpack is just right when you're traveling light.
I bought the Magnum for my daily commute to office & gym what a great pack. Super light weight, very functional. Material seems very fragile at first, but after multiple times getting caught on subway doors and elevators, it is still going strong! Size is just perfect for commute or sightseeing type. It can compress small, I usually keep it in my luggage, and take it out for a quick sightseeing.
Only complain is the color. On the photo of website (both yours and Black Diamond), they look solid color of black or gray. Unfortunately, the delivered pack had orange webbing all over, i.e. drag handle and bungee code keepers. I wish they fix the picture to match the product more....
This is a great little pack. Its a good size, holds a water bladder nicely, and looks good. The bungee on the front works well, and the side stretch pockets hold bottles and such very well. The inside front has a nice deep pocket with a key keeper for random items. The pack is about the width of a regular school binder just for comparison. I have used it for lots of hikes and also light school use. Works great. My only wish is that the belt strap wings and belt had a place to tuck into when not in use. I daisy chain them up and they stay out of the way, but would be nice to be able to fold them in.

I love this pack, the way that the pack straps float out from the pack are super comfortable. Also for its lightweight profile it fits more than you realize based on the specs. I think this is because of the lip where the hydration unit comes out allows you to pack and compress things inside
Have had this for a while and am very satisfied. I got the black color, so when it gets dirty I just throw it in the wash no problems. Small, but packs in everything you need for a day hike or commute. Quality of build seems good so far, no rips or tears. Recommended
Bought this pack about a month ago -it has been on my back nearly every day - and I have been totally blown away by how amazing it is.
I was initially hesitant to purchase, because photos of this pack make it look somewhat bulky and chunky when compared to other small packs. What the photos don't show you, though, is how elegantly the pack compresses. Due to some creative origami-like seams, when you pull the drawstring, this pack folds to an ultra slim, clean, and compact pack; much like the Bbee. It hugs my back without being constricting, and feels natural whether nearly empty or crammed full.
The only other packs I was considering were the Arcteryx offerings, and while I'm sure they are fantastic, at twice the price, it's impossible that they could be twice as good... because this pack is pretty close to perfect.
It is super light weight and very functional. Do not get scared if the material seems fragile at first. I can tell you it is very strong after all use I have given to it: this bag has gone with me to many places so far during daily hikes... from costarrican rainforest and beaches to the very Patagonian mountains and glaciers. It is a great size, you can pack much more than you think on it, and it will not loose the pretty shape.
This is a great day pack. I wouldn't go out for a weekend with just this, but for overnights it seems to be great. It fits very well on a 5 11 frame and doesn't move around a lot if you jump or run. The compactness of it is great as well, i can roll it up into my bigger suitcase when i go to Europe no problem.
I love this little thing, I use it for everything, at school, on day hikes, taking a change of clothes to the gym. Very good quality... it is a black diamond. The waist strap is a nice feature not found on many small packs.
I recommend the Small Osprey rain cover. It's large enough to thoroughly cover the backpack, it won't take much space in the backpack and it is only about 24 bucks, I think.
I have been using this for short outings with my scouts and it's my primary geocaching "go bag". it's perfect for GC'ing, a small zip pocket inside the front flap is perfect for the GPS and my small camera. It also has a hydration sleeve, which works great for small field books and notebooks. More than enough room for extra hat gloves, light fleece and other small items for the boys. Nice bungee on the outside to put in a rain coat. The water bottle holders on the sides are small, but if you have a small nalgene or a clean canteen, you'll be ok. It's very lightweight - I'll wear it all day and forget it's on. It also fits me good, being a bigger guy (300+), once I let the straps out all the way...versatile and cheap - it's a winner...
I am absolutely delighted with this pack. I bought it for use as a minimal summit pack for climbs less than a day. But it has also proven super for afternoon hikes and non-technical uses.
The minimalist waist belt buckles fairly high on the hips, facilitating use with a harness. It also holds a 100 oz (!!) Camelback or MSR hydration system, and has hydration ports exiting the top of the pack for both left and right-hand usage.
I can fit 3 liters of water, a first aid kit, a stuff sack of essentials, a weather layer and a lunch. Just what I need, and nothing more.
This is one of the few Black Diamond items that doesn't carry a rather prohibitive price. I was able to buy it on sale, and can strongly recommend it to others looking for a tough, minimalistic pack that can be toted in a larger pack for use on summit, or it can serve as the supply pack for an afternoon outing.
I was wondering if fits helmet and hiking shoes?if not inside. maybe outside if attatched will hold strong enough, and if does come with outside nest so i can fits stuffs like helmet like the deuter bike 15 L 2011. Thanks
I bought this pack for my last trip abroad. It was an excellent addition. You can fit everything one would need for a day or two without the large rucksack - a walk around the city, a day-hike, etc. On a typical day, I kept a novel, sunglasses, a 1.5 liter reservoir and a rain jacket. With all these items, there was still room for more. What else can you ask of a 16 liter pack?
i like to mash and cram my daypack in my bigger pack when i'm backpacking - is that easy to do with this bag, or am i better off wich a less structured bag? Any suggestions?
I needed a good fitting breathable gray colored back pack to use on day outings to see birds. Something to put 2 jackets in and a small lunch and that carries 2 bottles of water. The Magnum fits the bill perfectly.
I found this pack to be a bit too small for my daily trips to the gym. I wanted a pack that could fit a pair of running shoes, a change of clothes, and my ipod. This pack couldn't do it. It's a nice looking pack, just a bit small.
Is the main compartment wide enough for reasonably sized text-books? I like a daypack that can be used around campus as well...What are the dimensions?
It can fit two textbooks easliy, along with a couple notebooks. The little internal pocket will hold pens/pencils, cell phone, and anything else that you need to get to quickly (as long as it's small). The shock-cord on the exterior will hold a rain shell or light sweater as well so you don't have to take up any room inside the pack.
I bought this pack for day trips into the woods and for mountain biking. After having it for over a year I couldn't be happier with it. With the chest strap buckled, the pack doesn't go anywhere you don't want it to, even when running down hiking trails. As for the strength, I have loaded it with over 20 pounds of textbooks without a problem. Also, it's not labeled as water resistant, but it definitely is. I got the orange and the color looks even better in person. Another great purchase from an awesome site!

if you are looking for a bag that doesn't chaff/pill your shirt, and distributes the weight evenly this is it! Excellent for day hiking. I easily fit my sandwich, snacks, an apple, first aid kit & a 2L H2O bladder & 3L camelback with out trouble.
This is one awsome little bag. I have filled it to it's max and when all the straps are fastened you can even feel it pull on your shoulders. It is really great.
I looked everywhere for a backpack to run with. I run home from work (3.5 miles), so I need to carry the clothes I wore to work in a backpack (shoes, pants, shirt). My old backpack rubbed my back, so I needed a new one. This backpack is great, although at first the straps rubbed against my neck (I got used to it though). I am assuming someone bigger than me (I am 5'4" 110lbs) might not have this problem. Overall nice little backpack!
The Magnum arrived last week, and it is exactly what I was looking for. The color is identical to what you see online (dolomite/grey/orange). It is light-weight, and the material is compressible yet seems very durable. Not sure I can get it in a Coke can, but it does substantially pack down. Will be hiking in Shenandoah Natl Park next month and cannot wait to use it.
This is perfect for day hiking and day trips anywhere. It's very comfortable and holds plenty of essentials without being too bulky. The only minor drawback is the lack of an external pocket for items you want to get to quickly. I found the color (dolomite) to be as represented in the online photos.
This is a small pack--which fits the bill nicely for day trips and doesn't get in the way whether you are climbing rocks or navigating through crowds. It can snugly hold two water bottles (two excellent elastic mesh pockets on each side), a rain coat (tied on the outside), camera and snacks--not much more. The harness is very comfortable and capable of supporting the load--and pulling it in close so it isn't flopping around throwing off your balance. The cargo area is very accessible and has a zippered inside pocket and another inside pocket.
We liked it so much we bought one for everyone in the family and have taken it on every hiking/canoe/swimming/car trip since. My wife loves it and has taken to leaving her purse at home in favor of this little pack. On our last trip to the waterpark there was enough room for a beach towel and one other item inside, either lunch, spare shirt/socks, or medium size camera bag.
While the pack makes no pretension of being waterproof, it did hold up well in the bottom of the canoe on the last trip. Only the items around the zippers were wet (the outside was muddy and wet). We have used these on short rainy hikes exposed to the downpour, and didn't have issues with our gear getting wet inside after three hours. A couple of more hours and the contents would probably have gotten wet--but we were done before the packs gave out.
I recently bought this backpack to use for traveling and hiking. It is a body-hugging minimalist design. The rip-stop nylon, hardware and construction is very durable and light weight. Smooth-working nylon coil zippers with clever integrated pulls. Well shaped and positioned straps shoulder, chest and waist straps. A very useful detail is the good-sized zippered pocket inside the main compartment that keeps small items from rolling around (not mentioned in the original description). It fits my 12" powerbook in a padded sleeve perfectly with plenty of room to spare. Two stretch mesh pockets expand a lot and hold water bottles firmly. I bought the pack in black for its inconspicuous look and am very satisfied in all respects.
A great day pack! It fits everything i need for the day on a hiking trip... two sandwiched, waterbottle, sweater, first aid kit, bug spray and notebook.
Very comfortable too. Its not too big and not too small.
This pack is great its just big enough for all your essentials for a day of hiking, Trail riding, or trail running. It has side pockets to hold water bottles if you need extra water. I has a hydration sleeve that can fit a 100oz no problem. Also has a nice sized internal pocket for you keys.phone etc. Its great for those who like to push the pace and dont want a huge pack to get in the way.
This is a great little pack. Its a good size, holds a water bladder nicely, and looks good. The bungee on the front works well, and the side stretch pockets more...
