GridLock Magnetron

Black Diamond's GridLock Magnetron is the locking carabiner from the future, now equipped with an automatic, magnetic locker for more convenience while climbing. This magnetic pincher stays secure for seasons of sandy, snowy sending, and it opens easily with either hand. Black Diamond designed this carabiner with an ergonomic belay loop to prevent cross-loading, a keylock nose for snag-free unclipping, and an I-beam construction for a lighter feel.

Perfect for Glacier Travel

10/10 for what I bought it for. I use it solely to attach onto a rope team for glacier travel. Beats having to use up two lockers while also preventing weird cross-loading situations. I have heard stories from other guides about them being demagnetized after rappeling on them. So be aware that could be an issue. However, I've yet to have a single issue for my intended use.

Gridlock Magnetron

Great piece of gear. The lock leaves no doubt that it will hold and stay closed!

Perfect for belaying

I love the peace of mind never second guessing if I, or my belayer, forgot to double check the gate is locked.

Love the gridlock magnetron. It's incredibly easy to use and still get the 3 point security.

Really cool and super functional

I use this on the personal end of my purcell loop when ascending rope. It keeps itself from becoming cross-linked when I unload to reset. While it's seems kinda gimmicky to have a magnetized lock, I've really come to like it. It's easy to manipulate one handed, and gives a very satisfying click into place that's easy to hear so you know it's locked. I always get compliments and jealous looks from my team mates!

Soooo cool!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Just because Matt Groom doesn?t like them does no°°t mean you shouldn?t get one! I like carabiners & I like magnets, seemed pretty straight forward that I should like the magnetron, & I do! It?s user friendly, I don?°t care what people say, it?°s ridiculously easy to operate & I know I?m safe when I?m using it. Highly recommended.

Fast and safe.

At first, it was unusual for me to use the Gridlock Magnetron. You get used to it over time. It’s well built and the magnetic catch makes the carabiner a lot easy to open than automatic screwgate ones. I really liked the Gridlock Magnetron. That also makes it safer as I do not need to worry that the gate is not closed properly.

it is unsafe and dangerouse for use

carabin refused open after at cross river by hinged crossing. No any action didn't help open gate. If I need urgent unlock carabin and from this action depended my life - everything could be finish tragically

Fast and safe, just takes a little getting used to

I love the Magnetron Gridlock. It’s well built and the magnetic catch makes the carabiner a lot easy to open than automatic screwgate ones. That also makes it safer as I do not need to worry that the gate is not closed properly. The feature that prevents cross loading needs a little time and practice to get used to but I prefer Black Diamond’s design rather than others which has an additional spring, which also means one extra step and component that might fail. One other reviewer mentioned that the clearance is too little for his pilot ATC and blamed it for wearing out his belay loop. I can only say yes the clearance makes it a bad design, but it’s the bottom loop that is used with the belay loop, not the top?
