The Black Diamond Kingpin Gloves are thin, dexterous, ultra-durable work gloves for skiers and patrollers who need equipment that lasts. Tough Pittards goatskin makes the Kingpin Gloves burly enough to stand up to the rigors of on-the-mountain work. Their Polartec ThermalPro insulation keeps your hands warm without inhibiting freedom of movement.
Bottom Line: The Black Diamond Kingpin Gloves take the beating without needing duct tape by mid season.
Full leather, not too warm, these are a working glove, for day to day work with your hands, or touring uphill. Not extremely warm for the cold days or the downhill.
My favorite ski glove for all but the coldest days. Tons and tons of dexterity and durable enough for the hardest of the hardcore. Easy on and off with a very simple and effective velcro closure system. Simple no frills design is perfect for a leather work type of ski glove. Dexterity is definitely the priority, not warmth. I generally have warm hands and this glove works for me all winter except for the absolute coldest days.
I lost one of my Polartec gloves. Size L Shell Armor Tan (although the web site says Armor Tan the gloves look black to me. Is it possible for me to order a replacement glove (right hand)
thats a question better asked to the help team at backcountry, but honestly i thik you're out of luck, unless its covered by black diamonds warranty then u just have to buy a new pair of gloves; like we all have to when we lose one

The Kingpin's have been my go to spring skiing gloves for the past couple seasons. I love the feel of leather on my ski poles, as well as on rock and simply just wearing around. They make for super work gloves and are really durable. I treat mine with water-proofing wax, which absorbs well after a few days. The Kingpin is one of three or four gloves in my quiver, and pretty much kicks ass.
These gloves are great for almost any day on mountain or backcountry. They are warm and come flexible so they dont require a lot of breaking in. I also like the tighter cuff so I can pull my jacket cuff over. I think that i wore these almost every day this last season except for a few extremely cold days when the patrol mitten was necessary. They come highly recommended by me as well as all of my friends who own a pair.
I've used these gloves over 30 days this year. In that time they have served me well. For me they are good for anywhere between 20-40 degrees. Any warmer and they come off. Any colder and they don't seem to cut it. If you are able to dry them out every night they will keep you dry every day. I have noticed that they've stretched out quite a bit and if I buy another pair will size down to accomodate for the stretching. Otherwise great glove.
These gloves are almost perfect. Durable leather construction with one FAT GAPPING weakness. Why did they make the glove full construction and then put a stupid nose wipe on the thumb?!?!?! It will just wear out. And no waterproof membrane? Might be fine in the cold and dry interior, but on the coast, our wet winters necessitate a membrane.
I anyone knows a FULL leather glove with a waterproof, breathable membrane and minimum insulation, please let me know.
Hi, you could try Ironclad CCW or Ironclad Kong. I will not spend time seeking A warm glove so I voided my warranty & return option on a Dakine Titan Glove, Folded it inside out after unthreading the inner liner from the gauntlet, then snipped the finger tip connectors & removed the inner liner, folded the finger tips in a tiny bit and took a Ringers Insulated Roughneck guaranteed to -20 with impact protection on the back of hand and an additional internal hipora waterproof barrier, I placed the tipa int the dakine glove and folded it back over the roughneck, then stitched by hand the wrist enclosure to the gauntlet.
I love these gloves. The dexterity is among the best there is and the fact that they are all leather means excellent durability. I buy the colored gloves (not black) so when I drop them I can more easily find them. I dont use them for winter skiing, not warm enough except for fall and spring days, but I have cold hands.
It's a good glove with great grip and it's very comfortable. It isn't very good when temperatures get down to 15 degs or lower your fingertips feel like they're going to break off, but not bad for the price if your going to buy a glove spend a little more and get a lot better glove.
These gloves are simple enough, but I think they outperform more expensive gloves for a number of purposes. Among gloves that are warm enough for cold-weather ski touring and resort days, they offer a lot of dexterity. I use them with liners when it's cold. I don't think they're waterproof (but the snow is really dry in CO, so it hasn't been an issue). They're slim enough to fit in my Nordic ski pole straps, and I can strap into a snowboard easily without taking them off.
These gloves are the whole package. They are warm, the lining is soft, the leather is bomber. The cuffs fasten tight enough around my wrists to keep snow out and I can still operate my DSLR's tiny controls with them on. Great gloves!
these gloves aren't just for spring skiing. i have used these all season. they are super dexterous (perfect for raising rope lines and moving boo) i give these an A+
This is a great glove for those days where it is just below freezing (20-32). I use these for skiing when the cold is manageable and for ice climbing. I always take more than one set of gloves for ice climbing so these are great for the climb and i throw on some warmer gloves for the belay.
I bought these gloves basically as leather wear around town gloves and they are outstanding in that capacity. I would hesitate to wear them on the mountain or in the bc unless it was a pretty warm day. Maybe in the spring I'll bust them out since the leather is waterproof. I haven't made up my mind about the velcro closure: some days I like it, some days it's annoying.
Granted my hands don't get hold unless it's single digits out there, but I use these gloves almost every day. Whether I'm shoveling my driveway, walking the dog, or skinning up the wasatch backcountry, the kingpins perform admirably. I took Chris' advice below and waterproofed the hell out of them and they feel bomber now.
These are awesome touring gloves, super warm (as long as you are moving and not sitting on a chairlift), breathe remarkably well, and the fit is superb. The leather is extremely supple, like wearing a pair of liners rather than full gloves. After I bought these I donated my other pairs of ski gloves to charity - not going to use anything else
Got the gloves and they looked awesome. Smooth full grain leather and insulated. However, the moment yu get them, make sure you treat them with something. I used them one day for snowmobiling and at the end of the day they were full of nicks and looking old. As a work glove I am somewhat disappointed because I can see these gloves will not last long.
Most gloves that I use get holes in them after one season of use. These have lasted the whole ski season (70+ days)and have not shown any signs off getting holes yet!
