The Black Diamond Women's Iris SA Harness uses Speed Adjust buckles to let you get in and out in second or accommodate extra layers during cold-weather climbing. This versatile design includes four gear loops to hold all you need for the pitch above you, and a full-strength haul loop helps you bring along a tag line on big routes. Black Diamond used a bullhorn-shaped waist-belt to make the Iris SA Harness incredibly comfortable even during extended hanging belays and projecting sessions.

great harness

i have nothing bad to say about this harness. it's comfortable and easy to use. the quick adjust buckles are awesome and i wouldn't buy a harness that doesn't have them.

My first harness

This is my first harness as I am new to rock climbing. I have only used this for indoor climbing. I find this very comfortable and love the quick adjustments. Extremely easy to use. I found the sizing to be right on. I wear a size 6 in pants and found the medium fit just fine.

I need a harness for ski mountaineering--gotta wear it all day

I need a harness for ski mountaineering--gotta wear it all day on the glacier which means, I'm gonna have to pee at some point. Can I keep the harness on while I drop my shorts?

Also, concerned re sizing--with layers etc I'm pushing the L size rating--yikes! Any suggestions?

Yes you can keep it on and drop trou. This harness is pretty adjustable so make sure you get the right waist size and you should be able to adjust to sizing for legs and waist. I have the same size harness for rock climbing and ice climbing with layers on and everything is good. Hope this helps!!!

I might suggest something else (price and comfort).

Camp USA Alp 95 - cheaper and lighter weight (not sure if bathroom with harness is possible)
BD Alpine BOD harness - cheaper and lighter weight/simpler (bathroom with it on is a go)

I bought this harness because I am working on a ropes course at a summer camp for three months. It is possibly the best investment I could have made! I spend anywhere from 2 to 6 hours in it and it is so comfortable no matter what I am doing or where I am. I would suggest this to anyone!

True to size unless you're in alpine

I bought a separate harness for ice climbing because I layer up so much. I own 2 BD harnesses and they fit true to size IF the harness doesn;t need to go over a fleece and a puffy. I am a size 8 and the medium works great for rock climbing, otheriwse I went for a large for alpine climbing.

glad you found the chartthe chart is just below the options. It has been my experience with Black Diamond harnesses that you want to measure over the clothes you will be climbing in. If you find a number that is between two sizes (30 s/m or 33 m/l), go with the larger size range in case you wish to add layers later. (If you measure 33, go with a large)

Sizing problems

I like the harness itself, nice features, comfortable when swinging on rope in store. The problem is the sizing. WARNING THE SIZING CHART IS WRONG. The chart told me I am a large. At the gear store the medium is borderline too big (all of the adjustments are completely tightened). They were out of small so I ordered it. It is just a tad too small (all of the adjustments are mostly loosened). In the end I returned it and am just going to wait on a new harness.
