    More control on the ascent.

Black Diamond added a trigger finger to the Index Ascender for an easier time on big walls. The trigger helps you manipulate the cam for easier operation low on pitches or while cleaning traverses. The Index also features a dual-density grip and trigger for enhanced comfort, a large carabiner clip-in hole for easy rigging, and left and right-handed versions.

Works for getting out of a bat cave :)

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had the pleasure of using the index ascenders for the first time last week whilst helping with a bat survey. First of all, we did find bats and they were snug and happy, hibernating away. Second...when it came time to leave the cave, the index ascenders were awesome. I've never used the old ascenders that used the thumb to release the trigger but have heard that they can be a bit of a pain. I was nervous using these for the first time but to my surprise the process was painless and I flew out of the cave!

    BD ascender

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used the petel ascenders for some time now and I just recently switched to the BD index ascenders. I don't have any complaints about these. The larger biner hole is awesome. Multi finger use is super easy and convenient. It's just a simple straight forward ascender. Travels smoothly on the rope. It holds well I've used it for rope soloing many times and have yet to have a problem. I have also used a ropeman for ascending and I recommend forking over the extra money for the good handle acsender. It's just way more user friendly. Black diamond index ascenders are the bees knees!

    Sweet Ascenders

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used the new and old Petzl Ascensions but I didn't like the sharp edge on the thumb release. I intended to get the Black Diamond nForce which looked easier to manipulate and the reviews were great. But then I saw these new BD Index Ascenders and they are easy to use (practiced on a rope in the basement). I can't wait to use on the rock. The BD nForce ascenders seemed to have a lot of moving parts while these Index ascenders are straight forward.

This is why I reckon that BD are the best, the old nforce ascenders had their problems and BD listened to the climbers that actually use the gear and they now have these updated model. I cant wait to order a set, move aside Petzl there is a new king on the block in big boys ascenders....
