The extremely versatile Black Diamond HotWire Carabiner has become one of the most popular 'biners around. Use it on sport climbs, trad climbs, and even ice climbs. The wire gate design allows you to clip easily, doesn't freeze like a solid gate, and helps the HotWire Carabiner reach a low weight of 1.6 ounces. This Black Diamond carabiner has seen use on everything from Red River sport clip-ups to Himalayan alpine-style ascents.
Bottom Line: Climb everything with the versatile, lightweight Black Diamond HotWire Carabiner.
These are a great item to have for rope end draws, slings, cams, etc. The light weight eliminates potential gate flutter and is easier on the hike in. Fair opening for easy clipping, great durability as well.
I really like these 'biners. They have a nice big opening for clipping to pro, or to rope, or to some gear that you need secured to your pack. They are light weight, and while not the lightest, for me they are the most useful, since I have bigger hands. They fit and just work better for me. The strength on these is higher than the Oz., which a friend uses, and that gives me that added confidence in my gear to push harder.

I have really big hands, and used the Chouinard/BD Light D from the 80s and the monster BD Big Easy from the 90s before the HotWire. The HotWire fits my mitts just fine, the wiregate action is pretty snappy, and the body of the biner still has a bit of heft that makes it really easy to grip. It's just wide as well as pretty long. Two seasons of scraping on the Red's sandstone have given each a nice patina enhancing the handling. I do use BD Neutrinos as racking biners, but they are too small and fumbly as free biners for me. The HotWires go on both ends of my floppy dedicated trad draws, and serve as free biners. I have friends that say the HotWire wears a bit more quickly at the rope end of sport draws than, say, the Petzl Spirit--something about the respective alloys I guess. But for me the HotWire rocks for trad.
Very light and responsive. This is a good biner to use on top of the quickdraw and then a Black Diamond livewire on bottom. If you want to go wire this is the one to go with, I have used this one for years and its always been awesome. Plenty wide opening for whatever your doing.
I used mine on draws and love it. Because it is a little larger it clips better than the Neutrino, but is obviously a little heavier. I love mine and will buy more in the future.
This is one of the best carabiners you can get without sacrificing size for weight. It's super responsive and won't leave you worrying about its reliability compared to other non-locking biners with bulkier gates. The next non-locking biners I buy will undoubtedly be more HotWires.
The HotWire model from Black Diamond is exactly what you'd expect from the reputable company. A light weight and sturdy non-locking wire caribiner that comes in a variety of colors. After the first wave arrived, I ordered a couple more.
