The Guiding Light is the biggest tent in Black Diamond's Superlight line and an excellent choice for lightweight 4-season camping with a group of four. Its very breathable and highly water resistant EPIC canopy combines with a SilNylon floor to bring you this roomy tent for a weight of only 5lb 6oz. The Guiding Light tent packs down to 7 x 12in, and sets up in less than a minutes thanks to its single-wall design. Instead of sliding the poles through sleeves or clipping them into mini carabiners, they just set up inside this Black Diamond tent. In extremely bad weather, crawl in and set it up from the inside.
Bottom Line: The Black Diamond Guiding Light Tent holds four campers at a weight of only five and a half pounds.
Awesome tent that I highly recommend. Can't beat the size to weight ratio. This has been my go-to tent for the last 4 expeditions. Perfect for high camps where extra room is nice for suiting up and visitors can come in and talk strategy. We have even had multiple teams in this tent. On K2's shoulder at 7900ish meters we had 6 big dudes hanging in here waiting for our summit push. I've had crazy windy nights at high camps on Broad Peak and Everest and this tent has held strong. The 5 poles make it really solid and tight so there is no noisy flapping in the wind. Easy to set up, even in strong wind, 2-5 minutes. Great ventilation and access with 2 huge doors. Solid zippers and guy points. Only downside is it's large footprint, sometimes making it tricky or very tiring to hack out a ledge. But that is the case with all large tents. For winter action, this tent will not disappoint.

What I like most about it is dividing up the components, tent, poles, stakes and ground cover. The kids learn to carry team gear and I reduce my load year after year!
As for functionality, we have experienced heavy rain in the High Uintas, high winds in the Southern Snake Range and very warm temperatures in Canyonlands all without any misgivings on the decision to procure this tent.
BTW: The design is simple, therefore there are less variables resulting in less probabilty of a failure.
This tent would be great for family backpack trips cause it's light weight yet durable and easy to set up. I like the single wall construction unless you want to star gaze. I thought it held 4 adults quite nicely and I was able to stretch out at 6'1". This is a great tent and I would not hesitate to recomend this tent for variable conditions.
Woke up this morning to freezing rain and was happy to find that the single wall EPIC was dry as ever! Been using this for the past year, took it to Mt. Washington and was able to fit four 6ft ppl in it without any trouble. A hint: keep a few inches open at the top of each door and it will prevent any breath-ice from forming on the inside!
Hey, they sell here on THIS site. Use the search engine above, and write in Black diamond Sky Light. Everything offered for the tent will be listed. I know, the people at this store should show pictures with links on side of the tent as related purchases. Instead, they have other gear in this spot. Doesn't make sense. Everything else they do really well here, spoke with several of the guys about this tent recently.
Pitched this tent in the rain in Yosemite. Very light weight and despite the single wall kept the rain out. The bottom kept the water out. Seam-sealed it tho and it took a while to do it (lots of seams). Really light weight.
It will be tight. Ours holds two adults, two kids (4 & 6) and a 60 lb golden retriever. Any bags touching the sidewalls will be damp in the morning from condensation. Also, sealing the seams is an absolute pain in the butt!!
Ultra light and simple, yet total durable and tough as nails. The single wall construction worried me until 4 of us stayed bone dry thru a night of heavy casacde rain. It is the biggest and lightest tent I have ever owned. What a dream! Why didn't someone build this tent sooner?
They did - It was called the Bibler Bombshelter. When Black Diamond bought Bibler a few years ago they have been slowly updating the materials on the tents and re-releasing them under different names.
I used this tent while camping in Capital Reef. It was hot during the day. Having the doors open on each end kept the tent nice and cool when we wanted to hang out in the shade. At night, a cold front came in, along with rain and some strong winds. This tent was dry as a bone and hardly moved with the wind. I slept like a rock.
This tent is made with a durable lightweight material, but is not the easiest tent to set up. With 5 poles that are all set up from the inside of the tent, there was definitely some confusion setting it up the first couple times around. I think this tent could also benefit from some larger storage pockets on the inside - the storage pockets it comes with are no more than 2-3 inches deep. Other than that, it's a good size, lightweight tent.
Awesome tent that I highly recommend. Can't beat the size to weight ratio. This has been my go-to tent for the last 4 expeditions. Perfect for high more...
