The Black Diamond Gizmo Headlamp provides go-everywhere lighting after the sun’s gone down at your campsite, or when a day hike runs longer than expected. The three SuperBright LED bulbs provide up to 24 lumens of illumination and light up with 25 meters, so you can spot the skunk between you and your tent before you get into range. You can dim the strength of the Gizmo Headlamp's beam to the level of choice once you're safely back inside.
Strobe function is also included
Powers off after four hours to extend the already-impressive 100-hour burn time
Protected against splashing or sprayed water from any angle
I was mostly looking for something to light the way on late-night trail runs for a decent price (since I'm a poor college student). Picked up the BD Gizmo lamp. I was a little nervous that it might bounce on my head while I'm running, but it hasn't yet. It's accompanied me on all of my late-night runs since I got it and has done a great job (I've got no sprained ankles or broken legs yet). Puts out enough light for me comfortably see most everything from my feet to about five meters.
On my last run, I wore the Gizmo over top of a sock hat and barely even noticed it was up there. Highly recommend.
Don't expect this little thing to be another sun. It's a basic headlamp that doesn't break the bank and get's the job done.
This thing has been with me camping/climbing in Australia, backcountry skiing/touring, doing car repairs/dash wiring, and everywhere in between. It's never failed, even after a 15m fall from a helmet on the KP wall in Brisbane.
It does not get 5 stars because it is a simple, 3 setting light and I have found that the batteries don't last as long as I would like. I always have a spare pair in my med/repair kit so it hasn't been an issue, but it is something to note.

I got one of thesa like 2 years ago and its not a very good lamp, i have used for camping and hiking and it stand well but it not a very water or sand resistant, for just $3 more you can get a petzl Tikkina that is a much better and solid lamp.
Loved the Gizmo, but i recently upgraded to Black Diamond Storm. Both are great lights, but the Storm has some extra settings that I couldn't resist. Black Diamond is my go-to company for headlamps.
I almost wanted to rate this a 4 just because I have a new amazing Storm lamp, but this one does a great job and is a bit lighter. I use it for hiking and haven't been on any trails where I wished it was brighter or had more range.
This isn't great at everything, but does a nice job at being good for a lot of things. Fairly light, decent output, several options (high, low, blinking) make it nice. I like that you don't have to cycle through all the options to turn it on/off.
The light output could be a bit higher for my taste, but the weight and price are nice.
I needed a small, lightweight, affordable headlamp to replace my old Black Diamond. I decided to stick with the company, as they have proven to me that they put out a solid product. They did not let me down with the Gizmo: the band is narrow, comfortable, and does not slip from even the sweatiest head; the light output is bright enough to illuminate campsites and cave passageways; it stood up to late-night river stomping on gravel bars. The dimmer feature was a great plus when it was time to settle down by the campfire with a good book. I could not ask for a better lamp.
I got the Gizmo headlamp for my Boyfriend for Christmas, and he LOVES it. It is the brightest headlamp that him and I have ever seen. I need to get another one for myself!
I have had a great Black Diamond headlamp in the past, so when I lost it after performing excellently for years in all kinds of weather conditions I naturally reached for a Black Diamond again. But this time I was disappointed.
Towards the end of a three week trip my Gizmo headlamp just turned off at random times. I could turn it on right away, but unless I dimmed it it would turn off again within a few seconds. But then the next night it would shine bright again for an hour or so and then the same thing happened - off without warning. I thought it was the cold temperatures, which were in the 30's at night, but on a second trip later in the summer with fresh batteries the same thing happened. Seems to be a manufacturing error, so I am going to return it.
I was so excited for this item to arrive in the mail. I carry my gizmo with me everywhere I go. The gradual dimming feature is a quirky/cool addition to this headlamp. My boyfriend picked an older version, which only has a few set dimmer settings. He's jealous... so I share. Sometimes. :)
The light housing is good enough, but after your first few battery changes the tab that you push to open the light to change the battery breaks. Upon closer inspection, the battery compartment just isn't made that well.
I recently lost my petzl tikkina 2 headlamp in the woods, long story, but I picked this guy up on a recent purchase and im glad I did. I have a large head so the band on the BD gizmo was more comfortable than the petzl. And the way this light fades into a lower setting instead of pre set clicks is pretty cool.
Simple and gets the job done. I've never used a headlamp much before, but this one definitely gives me enough light to set up camp in the middle of the night. Good value for the price!
Terrible headlamp. I've gotten two of these buggers, and both turn off immediately after I turn them on. Idk if it's the altitude (7703? WTF) the cold or what but I returned the first and the same thing happened to the second. It works for like a month and quits... I might add that I take impeccable care of my headlamps (and all my gear for that matter, I aint got enough cash to buy it in the first place) I'm rather disgruntled and I had to bump up the 24 dollar mammut one. That five dollars could have gone to a nice fancy beer after dark with my would-be functional headlamp...
I was just about to dis this light for not having multiple settings. Thankfully, I took the time to read a couple reviews before posting. Perhaps I should start reading directions? What a cool little headlamp. Not only does the color pattern of this light make you stand out in the backcountry, it has multiple settings too!
Edit: Unfortunately I have to add that before I even had the chance to use this headlamp in the backcountry the on/off button went on the fritz. It's still nice to look at but that's about all it's good for at this point.
I haven't used a ton of headlamps in my day, but for when it gets dark out I couldn't ask for more. This sucker can be really bright, but the dimmer is awesome for when you are in closer spaces and don't really want to blind others or yourself. It'd be cool if it had the red light option to be easier on the eyes like some headlamps do, but maybe I'll just get one of those separately. I've had it for almost 10 months now and haven't had to change the batteries either!
I was mostly looking for something to light the way on late-night trail runs for a decent price (since I'm a poor college student). Picked up the BD more...
