Add some bite to your bindings.

When skinning conditions get slick and icy, the Fritschi Diamir Axion Ski Crampon deploys with the flick of a ski pole. This retractable ski crampon attaches to the Fritschi Eagle or Freeride Pro binding and its long size provides extra bite on steep, technical slopes.

Works well

Great in a pinch as long as they are on your skis and not in your backpack. Not sure I depend on them for an expedition since they are half plastic. I’m glad I had them though on a sketchy side hill recently.

So far so good!

There was some worry when I read other reviews that the plastic bits of these were prone to breaking. I have used these a few times now and have zero issue. I can see where those parts may not be the most stout, but I believe it is an appropriate trade off for the weight savings they offer. If you are in conditions that would require romping on these guys then it is probably advised to switch to crampons and put the skis on your back anyway. These ski crampons are convenient, lightweight, and completely out of the way when skiing. Just treat them nicely and they should serve your needs for a long time.

Poor build quality

I was half way up a very steep climb on day 3 of the Haute Route when the metal component of one of the crampons literally snapped off and tumbled onto the distance. I was left facing a very steep climb at 9000+ feet with only 1 crampon remaining. This is not s situation that warrants a positive review of a product.

It failed me at the very worst time

Two days into the Haute Route the metal crampon on my left ski seperated from the plastic mount and fell down a long slope into oblivion. This left me in a very precarious situation. Thus I am a little underwhelmed by the build quaility of the product.

Great idea, poor reliability

While changing our gear to Freeride Pro bindings also have to change crampons to compatible Axion 110. We really loved the idea of retractable crampon that can be switched on and off instantly. I was not sure that it wouldnt compromise downhill performance but I feel no problems. When retracted the crampons work really well. But the real issue is reliability. Plastic parts of the crampon tend to broke unexpectedly. You wan't like the feeling when a crampon fail near ice-covered summit, even if it is only 2000 m. It's a pity there is no alternative without plastic parts. Warranty service was fast and without any problems, thanks a lot to the manufacturer. But after two failures in our small group of friends we can't rely on them any more...
