Description

Rack up with the Black Diamond FreeWire Quickdraws and save both money and weight on your rack.

Black Diamond's FreeWire Quickdraw combines two wire-gate carabiners and a durable nylon dogbone in a set for climbers who don't want to go broke for draws. The wire gates eliminate gate flutter and reduce the chance they'll come open in a fall. This Black Diamond quickdraw also resists freezing better than solid gate models, which makes it excellent for winter climbing. Best of all, the FreeWire Quickdraw weighs only 3.4 ounces to keep your rack light.

Great value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For the price, these draws cannot be beat. I have bought quite a few of them and thing they are a great, basic draw. They are not the lightest, compact, or most attractive draws out there, but they are color coded, easy to use, and very solid. The orange/silver color coating is a nice feature as well. I've even ordered these draws just for their dogbones(to replace worn-out ones) and used the new biners to make more alpine draws.

Having a great time in Red Rocks at The Fringe crag!

Great for starting a sport rack!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These were my first draws and I am sure it is for most people. They are durable, affordable, and easy to use. I tend to prefer the wire gates and will continue to purchase these in the future for this reason. Why spend more when these get the job done. Buy these draws!

Affordable and Solid

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are pretty much my standard draws. Great price, decent weight, the wire gate clips well, nice thick dogbone with a rubber stopper and it might seem minor, but I like the opposite colored carabiners. If your looking to buy a large set or are on a budget, these are the way to go.

Affordable and Solid

Great budget QD!

I like the hefty dogbones and the wire gates have a smooth feel to them. Everyone seem to have these, no doubt because they are cheap, but they are also solid gear. I bought mostly 12mm and a few 18mm. Now that I've had them a while I'm ordering a few more. I like the rubber insert on the rope end loop. The only minor drawback on the 18mm is the bolt end loop is really large and the biner can easily flip around-but it goes back easily too.

Inexpensive and trustworthy

I just purchased a set of these for the climbing club, I got them b/c
1) we're on a budget and these are cheap
2) Black diamond is a brand i'll always trust.
As far as quality comparison i'd say these are pretty low on the totem poll BUT THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. If was choosing for myself I would go with something with a bent gate for clipping, a little lighter wouldn't be bad and i'd prefer something with a dogbone that didn't have such a large loop on the hanger-carabiner side so the carabiner couldn't slide around so much.
But all considered an awesome buy, do not regret getting! I would recommend these to someone just starting out at sport or someone who needs to buy a lot of draws! p.s. big fan of the rubber on the rope-biner side that keeps the biner stationary!

High Quality and Inexpensive

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Although not the lightest, these draws certainly perform. They have a great clipping action, are very durable, and can be purchased with long(er) dog bones. The dog bones are awesome - They're beefy and have a rubber piece for the rope end! Just make sure to put some tape on your draws to mark them, because everyone has these (and there's a good reason why everyone has these).

Solid Offering from Black Diamond

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wound up with six of these since I wanted something with a bit longer dogbone than the standard BD Positrons. I prefer the Positron biners since they have a hook free nose, but if I'm not on something wildly overhung these work fine. They're lighter than draws with solid gated biners, and you really can't argue with the price; the fatter (nylon) dogbone feels great in the hand, too. If you need draws and don't care that much about getting hook-free noses, these will serve you well!

Great cheap draws

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Only draw(har)back is that they're the same ones everybody and their dog has. I've never used bent-gate ones so I dunno if those are better. But these do the job perfectly, and are cheap enough that leaving one of them up on a wall isn't the end of the world (whoops).

Clip Forever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These draws are perfect. Clipping is quick and effortless. I own around 16 of these now and I would buy more if I had the need. They're not as heavy or bulky as others have said, and are definitely the best draws for the price.

Clip in!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are great! The dogbone makes setting and clipping a breeze. Have been bumming the same draws from the rest of my crew for the last 3 trips, finally bought my own rack and ready to throw down on the next one!

Good Quality

Use at the Red and they work great. Safe and secure, no issues.

Simple and Easy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Good quickdraw. No real surprises here. It's not a super-light draw, but it definitely gets the job done. The gates are easy to click and the dual color beaners make it easy to setup your harness. The only drawback would be the weight. But if you're not a super project climber than these will definitely work.

Thick dogbone makes it awesome!

Had these two draws for a while and all I can say is wow! I absolutely love them! Black Diamond makes the best draws in my opinion.

Love these draws!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have two of these draws so I tend to use them for the anchor on sport routes. Really light weight! If you are a beginner i would suggest getting about 8 of these draws to complete you standard sport climbing rack. They are very cheap but better than a lot of the draws that cost more than them.

Cheap and Effective.

Dirtbag prices for effective gear. I've been using them for a year now and I like them a lot. The carabiners tend to flip around on their own, wish they wouldn't. It just keeps me guessing if they are set up correctly but I can deal with it for $9 a quick draw.

Quick Draw weights

My scale reads 12cm model: 95g = 3.35oz. ; 18cm: 105.6g = 3.72oz.

Good for the price

Not the best Quickdraws on the market, but possibly the best value. These things are cheap, sturdy, and they get the job done. No complaints.

Good for the price

You realize this draw is clipped incorrectly right? The orange biner with a rubber retainer is meant to hold the rope while the loose silver biner should be on the bolt.

Responded on

Actually I just had my buddy clip it on a hangar and take a picture with my phone real quick before we left the crag one day. I never remember to take pictures of gear in the moment. You are right thought, I climb with it the opposite way.

Responded on

You can also switch the biners around before you start using it you know. If he wants the orange one on top he totally could have done that since neither gate is bent. I just ordered some and i'll probably switch the biners to match my other draws so i always have orange going to the hanger.

Niiiice

Good draw. Lightweight, clips nice and the price was right. Why does everything gotta be made in China though. BD and others could still make a killing making this stuff here. Guess there is more to it than meets the eye...

Responded on

there is more to it than meets the eye.

Responded on

Yeah, they want to maximize their killing. They'll shave off every last penny they possibly can. Gotta love private equity.

Responded on

Start your own company and make stuff here yourself. After federal taxes, obamacare, state taxes, OSHA, insurance, etc. etc., I suspect that any killing would be small to nonexistent.

I guess I've also just always been confused about what people think would replace those overseas jobs for the guy that is doing them now, and that's before we even consider comparative advantage.

Good draws, great price, and great jobs for whomever does them, I'm sure.
