Black Diamond Focus Speed Adjust Harness - Men's - 2008 BCS

Great harness. I love mine. Easy on and off with adjustable leg loops. I use this harness for sport, trad, big-wall, alpine and occasionally ski-mountaineering. It excels in all types of climbing. Super-comfortable even on those long hanging belays. A little heavy for alpine or ski-mountaineering but if I am going to be at any hanging belays the comfort makes it worth it and the adjustable leg loops make it possible to easily take the harness on and off with ski boots on. Gear loops work well even when over-loaded. I had to tie a little knot in the straps that go over the butt to keep them from adjusting but other than that this harness is fantastic.

I can get this thing on and dialed in a matter of 30 seconds. It is also very comfortable and has all the features needed in an all around harness. I have heard people say that the buckles are dangerous and will loosen over a prolonged climbing session, I have never had that happen and if so you should be checking the harness at the start of every pitch, and if they are loose just tighten it down. But like I said it has never loosened on me.

I debated for a few days if I should get the traditional buckles or the Speeds and I am Very happy I went with the SA version! Completely changed how I felt about gearing up for work or climbing. No more debating if it was worth it to take off my harness for a few minutes to rest because now I don't have to readjust and double back. Fellow climbers would give me jealous looks when I had my harness ready and waiting while they were just finishing up their waist buckle! It is a freedom everyone should experience and yes they are safe!! I bought mine a year ago and I'm already looking to buy another! The harness is a great all around harness for general climbing or working on high ropes courses. No, it's not for big climbs where you'll be hanging in your harness for extended periods, it's not made for that type of work. But if your looking for a no fuss, solid workhorse of a harness that simplifies your life, then this is it!

There may be more cushy harnesses out there, but I don't think I would bother. I've taken whippers in this, I've held leaders taking whippers with this. Comfy! The only time I wish it had more padding was when I was belaying a hangdog. No big, the harness only makes so much difference for that situation...

The four molded loops feel really solid so far, and the speed adjusts are fast and solid!

A word on sizing, I have a medium harness and wear a 30 to 32 waist.

An extremely comfortable harness. The rear straps are very easy to remove which is always handy... The harness is pretty bulky though.

So after a little more than a year of use (dunno, 50 days or so?) I've finally destroyed this thing. The webbing in the front that passes through the front buckle developed an 1/8" tear in it.
I'm hard on stuff, but I have pants with this much use that look better.

Its a great harness that fits wonderfully but I'm a little worried about its durability.
After 1 or 2 months of moderate use it looked pretty ugly. The fabric is worn down in spots and has small tears in places.
Nothing structural but I hope it stay that way.
Oh, and to be fair moderate use means a whole lot of chimneys to which very little doesn't get abused.

I bought this to replace a mad rock harness that had two gear loops rip out. So its a least better than that POS.

I tried on the Petzl harnesses and found that one I was in between sizes on them so the gear loops ended up being in wierd places and that the rear gear loops are almost all the way in the back. The BD harness has none of these problems for me.

Whatever you do, get a harness with speed type buckles. SO much easier than double backing webbing, especially when you've left your harness outside the tent in the snow and it has frozen. (don't do that)

I use this harness primarily for sport climbing at the gym. The speed buckles are awesome for moving between bouldering and top roping. Like others have mentioned with the speed buckles, you could have this harness on faster than Speedy Gonzalez,and be tied in before your friends are done double backing their webbing.
The focus is pretty comfortable too, granted I wouldn't want to hang in it for a couple hours. Hanging around at the gym and on normal climbs I've never had any uncomfortable pinching, or hot spots. I wouldn't wear it if I was planning on climbing El Capitan though. If that's your thing, you probably know better than to be looking at this harness anyways.

Very comfortable harness. I love the speed adjust, quick to put on and adjust, safer- no forgetting to double back the harness. I use it mainly in the gym, but have been outdoors in it several times and am very pleased with the harness.

I was in a hurry to get a harness at a store so I could go cragging that day...this was the only one that fit me that they had. At the time I was mad at the price I had to pay (day of harness shopping isn't the way to get a bargain). In hindsight I am very happy with my purchase. It is the most comfortable harness I've ever worn and is still pretty light. The quick buckles are nice and easy and you don't have to worry about double backing....but be sure to remember if you use another harness ever again. I would say it is worth the price if you're going to do a lot of cragging or short alpine trips.

obviously this harness has kept me alive, it passes test one.

when i collect my friends gear off the wall the flat part of the gear loops makes it easier to put it away than if they were just loops. The speed adjust on legs and waist is great! I also like how comfortable it is compared to my old harness. Sometimes i forget its on. I cant wait to put this thing on over my ski pants.

This is a pretty light weight harness, and is comfortable on. The quick-pull buckles make it very easy to adjust and I like that there are some on the legs and waist. I have a 29in waist and the Small fits me well.
