One pack to climb them all.

You could be the dude who has a cragging pack, a multi-pitching pack, an ice-climbing pack, and a bouldering pack, or you could be the dude who has the versatile Black Diamond Epic 35 Backpack and makes fun of the ridiculously kitted-out guy who flails his way up a 5.8. The Epic's the most versatile pack that Black Diamond makes, with a moderate-large volume and plenty of features to make climbing days easier, like ice tool pockets, a three-point haul system, and removable crampon straps. It's also one of the most comfortable packs out there, courtesy of the ergoActive suspension (a hip belt that pivots around a central point to rotate as you do) and floating SwingArm shoulder straps that are connected via an internal cable, allowing them to shift with your shoulders while remaining perfectly balanced. The padded hip belt is removable, and the Epic comes complete with full hydration compatibility so you don't have to suffer from thirst during those unpleasantly long approaches.

Really wanted this pack to work...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really wanted this pack to work for me. I admit it is challenging for any pack to meet all my needs and fit me correctly.

    Let's address the fit first. I'm 6'3

Great Pack for climbing and more

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a really great pack. I like this more than all my previous packs to date in this size. The main features that I really like are:

1- Comfortable to wear. Straps and support are well placed and padded
2- Great suspension. The ErgoActive suspension really works and allows movement and swiveling without feeling rigid. I had my doubts about the sliding connected straps; however, I was happily proven wrong on my first outing.
3- Thin width. I like that the pack is thin enough to allow for full arm swing and fits through tight spaces when canyoneering.
4- Durable 420d nylon. I often use this pack for canyoneering which beats every piece of gear you use. 420 is very tuff.

From here the list goes on with lash points, pockets, straps and so on. I primarily use this pack for climbing and canyoneering. You can use it for so much more. This really is a feature packed bag for all your outdoor activities.

Note: For canyoneering, I added grommets to the bottom of the pack so it can drain. Works like a charm and I much prefer this pack to the few actual canyoneering packs made by Canyoneering brands.
