    Versatility, convenience, and light.

Black Diamond's Ember Power Light is a super-handy mini flashlight for travelers, backpackers, and campers. Apart from boasting a 150-lumen TriplePower LED that brightens up more than 100 feet of darkness, the Ember Power also charges your USB- or MicroUSB-compatible electronic devices. Black Diamond paired the rechargeable battery with a power meter so you know how much juice it has left.

    At least it's bright

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So excited to get this. A flashlight that will change my electronics?! I thought this would be such an awesome tool. It's sleek and the rotating outer part feels solid. Coming from Black Diamond, I assumed this would be up to par with the level of quality I'm accustomed.

And then I found the power button.
First it's on, then its dim, then its off. At first I thought it was pretty neat. Then it doesn't want to come on, next it doesn't want to turn off. Now its on when I didn't think the button was even touched, and it won't turn off until its pressed ten times. Dimming the light seems to only work by holding the button. Tapping the button hard or soft, prolonged or quickly seems to have no affect. It has a mind of its own!
So overall I think this is a great idea, and would love to see BD come out with an updated button design.

    Upgrade

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was in search of replacing my Fenix brand flashlight that I use for running ultra's. I haven't put this one through the wringer yet and look forward to confirming the burn time. So many plus's: rechargeable, easy to dim, it is a good weight without being heavy and it puts off an amazing amount of light. The only con that I have found is that I can't turn it on/off or dim it with gloves on. The ability to use it as a charger is a bonus, but not a feature I sought out, I carry a Goal Zero flip 10 recharger, this will be a great backup.

Good to have for ultra races

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my go-to item for ultra races (100km). Usually the race require runners to bring a backup headtorch of handheld torch and also a phone that can call RD or 911 when in emergency. This Power Light can minimize the weigh while satisfying the above two mandatory gear requirements.

The light is very bright so you can actually use it in trails when headlamp is not working.

The con for this is the way it open the USB port is not protect with an extra lock, so it may accidentally opened the port and let water go in. And the touch on/off button is very easy to trigger. Not sure if I want to test the IPX4 water resistant I usually put it in a ziplock bag to keep it safe.

    Strong Light, Charged Phone

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Whether your camping, backpacking, road tripping, or just driving around town, we all have the moment when...uh oh! The phone is dead and you desperately need to get a hold of someone. Well, here's the answer! I loved it so much, I got one for my mom since her phone is ALWAYS dead! The flashlight is very bright and the tool itself is very durable. A sleek, brushed metal body keeps me worry free when dropped. Great item to give as a gift, or keep one in your car in case you break down. Either way, you'll not be let down!
