Description

From Hueco to Bishop to Squamish to Joe’s, the Drop Zone makes an ideal quiver of one.

Throw down the Black Diamond Drop Zone Crash Pad under your project and give yourself a spacious, well-padded landing for your repeated plummets from the crux. With 3.5 inches of foam to break your fall and a durable 1000D PU-coated nylon surface, the Drop Zone is sure to keep you covered for many seasons to come. The taco-style fold and continuous foam eliminate ankle-rolling dead spots, and the shoulder straps and waist-belt make for easy approaches. Side grab handles make for easy shuffling between problems, and an exterior elastic mesh flap lets you stow your shoes, jacket, and chalk bucket in the pad.
  • Ideal size for an all-around pad or addition to a deep stack under a highball
  • Metal buckles won't break in the middle of a road trip
  • Drag handles make quick pad moves easy

The reviews below are all spot on. The pad is adequately sized, stiff padding, and no slip bottom all do their job. I prefer the stiff padding for the rocky landing so common in many bouldering areas. Clamshell design works and after a full year of use the pad is holding up very well.

This pad has kept me safe from some pretty long falls. Its taco shaped pad is great for many reasons; its great to protect you from rocks and trees, you can insert packs and other items inside and carry them securely, and you can even stuff other smaller pads inside of it no problem at all!

Great buy for all skill levels!

Great pad.

The foam feels great right out of the bag and the taco shape and closure system makes it idle for loading up with backpacks, shoes or even another smaller pad.

I bought a Black Diamond Satellite Pad and you can actually caring it inside this pad no problem and it's still a super light set up.

The Black Diamond Drop Zone is easily one of the stiffest pads I've ever used. Good for high catching high falls alone or under a softer pad in a stack. It offers decent performance in couch mode, seldom sliding due to the non-slip coating, however that same coating doesn't perform as well as one would hope outside, if there was a bit more material to allow a little more "sheath slippage" then this pad would (probably) never slide out on angled or slick landings..
The afore mentioned stiffness also makes bed mode a bit uncomfortable, however it is wide enough to accommodate two in a small tent so its not all bad,
Overall; good if used in conjunction with a softer pad, and decent non-climbing uses, the closure system could use a bit more material, so as to better hold small items(brushes, tape, cliff bars) but its a sure improvement from the old system.. oh ya, did i mention that its quite light..

This pad can be really helpful when you are trying to cover rocks. The pad folds over like a taco and becomes a good tool for covering sketchy landings.

At this price, it makes a lot more sense to buy the Organic Fullpad.
More foam, more features (three layer foam, big zippered pouch for food and gear, HEIGHT adjustable straps for different sized climbers/types of hiking, hybrid vs taco design for season after season of intact foam, hip straps, etc.

The main thing here is the foam-- less than the competitors and only two vs three layers. If you want this level of quality, get the Metolius Stomp for a bit less $.
If you want to pay this price, get the Organic Fullpad for better quality (also about ten dollars cheaper).

This is my first pad but I have used several others that roommates and friends owned. I have no complaints other than the foam does wear out faster than it should. A great combination of protection, size, and price. Plus, it's a Black Diamond.
