Why We Like The Distance Z Trekking Pole

The Distance Z Trekking Pole is Black Diamond's value-packed trekking pole that doesn't slack. Its strong aluminum design is light, weighing well under a pound per pair. Breathable EVA grips and adjustable straps make it easy to clutch while ensuring it won't slide away if take a tumble. Plus, the Distance Z features the same collapsible design as the other Z-series poles—a button releases the sections for stowing, and an avy-probe pull grip slides it back together when we're ready to set off.

Great poles

I feel a lot of people look over these poles because they are aluminum and not carbon fiber, but these poles are not to be looked over. The light weight and durability of the distance Z come at an affordable price, and I am not looking to break another pair of carbon fiber poles mid race. The distance z are ultra light and durable so that won’t happen again. Great but!

Just right

These poles are exactly what I wanted them to be. No messing around with adjustable locks, no shortening of poles while using them, and they are super light. Love the grip and the stability they provide on any terrain.

fatal flaw

These poles have a fatal flaw: the straps do not work for heavy use. When poling hard with full extension behind, the straps loosen. This is because the straps are designs to be loosened by pulling them upwards. When extending the poles fully behind — like nordic skiing — the straps loosen a bit with each stroke. I have experienced this with two sets of new poles of this model. These straps are used on many other models. Everything else about this pole is very good but they are critically limited by the strap design which is crucial for some users.

Great poles

I haven't used these poles yet, but I already have another set and I really have always liked the Z Poles. I find the grip is comfortable and I use them weekly without any issues. The reason I go aluminum is due to the fact that they tend to bend instead of break (carbon). I fell down a hill on one hike and my poles took the brunt of it. They didn't break and I was able to bend them back somewhat straight...hench why I chose aluminum after researching it. This is my third pair. My original pair finally broke last year after i'd say 8+ years of constant use. They wouldn't lock and apparently I pulled too hard trying to get them to lock and the one pole broke (the small chain mechanism inside the actual pole broke apart). I was sad...ha...but they got a lot of hard use and served me well. Hence, why I continue to purchase these poles.

The right ones -

Look - when you find the right ones, just keep buying more. Why stop at one pair when two pair is better.....

Solid

Just got these but they seem solid. They don't adjust so make sure to get the right size!

Happy Customer

My previous pair of Distance Z poles broke internally during my last 50 Mile Race. I ordered the same pole but 10 cm taller. The taller height is a better fit. I like the fact the poles now are not right or left side specific.

Excellent poles

I bought the Distance Z poles to help support my sore knee. They are built strong and collapse easily for travel. They are just a bit heavier than my non collapsible Black Diamond ones but barely distinguishable. I also got rubber end tips that slide on for use on pavement.
