A warm, lightweight, breathable, durable, and fast-dry mid-layer for many activities.
Calling the Black Diamond Men's CoEfficient Fleece Jacket a versatile mid-layer might be an understatement considering the fact that you take it out on every cold-weather excursion. Its high-range versatility is due to the unique Polartec Power Dry High Efficiency fleece fabric that covers your body with soft warmth. Not only does it warm you, it's remarkably breathable and dries fast so you stay comfortable while you hike up powder-capped peaks or pick up a sweat during climbing expeditions whether they're long alpine ascents in the Tetons or short sport routes late in fall. And it's especially durable to withstand all the beatings you inflict on it all year long.
A slim fit pulls the CoEfficient close to your body to both help you layer up for ski sessions and reduce bulk to your climbing attire. Stretchy cuffs feel soft on your wrists, and Black Diamond lined the neck with cozy chamois for additional comfort. One chest pocket is all you need for your phone and wallet while you climb up some peaks or drop down them.

Good mid-layer, but not great.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
I really wanted to like this jacket. Some of the new BD outerwear is awesome, but this mid-layer was just average in my opinion. The fit was pretty standard, but the collar of the jacket was uncomfortably tall. The breath-ability was good, but I prefer the "waffle" design of some other manufacturers much more compared to the long oval shape used with the fleece on the CoEfficient.
Good piece, but......
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I've used this as a mid layer or under a ski jacket about 6 times. It has a slim fit and has enough sleeve length for my long arms. However after only using it that small amount of time the material is pilling on the forearms and shoulders so it looks old and well worn very quickly. I have the orange if it makes a difference.
Great layering piece with lots of detail
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
The Coefficient fit is a little slim. I like the little details like the Chamois-lined neck (super soft) and the stretchy cuffs. The arms are long enough that I can pull the stretchy cuffs pretty far down and give my hands some warmth when needed. Polartec Power Dry works great as a layering piece (especially with the slim cuffs) but I have used mine mostly for climbing and high aerobic outer layer.
