If your standard day on the rock includes multi-pitch routes and hanging belays, the comfort of the Black Diamond Chaos Harness is perfect for you. The waist belt is wider than any other in the BD line and has a bullhorn shape for more comfortable hanging belays and increased freedom of movement. The waist belt also features in-molded vents, which increase air flow on hot days. Four gear loops easily hold your trad rack, and a full-strength haul loop lets you trail a line so you can rap off when you finish the route. Strap on the Chaos, and climb until the treetops look like broccoli.
Bottom Line: Get a long way off the ground with the Chaos.
I have never once found a situation this hasn't excelled at, from 6 consecutive hanging belays in Black Velvet Canyon to 25-foot whippers on the Trophy Wall to having to carry 22 draws plus anchor setups in Owens. I am 5'9", 140 pounds, and the medium fits me perfectly. The huge wide section at the back of the waist strap is really nice for hangdogging or consecutive rappels, and the leg loops catch falls with no pinching of chafing. Plenty of space for tons of gear without feeling like it's pulling the harness down. I haven't found a downside, but a ski racer friend of mine (5'11", 185) says that during ski season, his quads get too big for the leg loops and he wishes they would adjust. I personally like the simplicity of two less straps and don't have the ubermuscle problem, so not an issue for me. And just to answer the "Confused" question (in case anyone was going to use the example), yes, it will work on the moon.
I've only used this harness twice and am loving it so far! I'm a 34" waist and the Med fit perfect. I love the non adjustable legs, they fit well and it takes only seconds to get the harness on and off. Very comfortable and simplistic for the gym.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about, but the leg loops are attached with normal webbing, and they're not adjustable. They don't stretch at all, nor do they lock. If that helps, great, otherwise clarify maybe?Louis may be confused where the "Tech Specs" say "elastic legs."The elastic only holds the leg band snug around the leg. Webbing holds the leg loops to the waist band. You can see the elastic in the photo, just below the webbing.
Been climbing with this harness for 2 months now and it hasn't let me down yet... and believe me I put it through the test. Its comfortable hanging, standing, or however else you would use it. The material over the entire harness is very abrasion resistant. I'm 6'1 190lbs and I got a Large that fits great. I've skidded down a face, sat around in the dirt, and given this harness just a ton of use in 2 months and it keeps truckin. I would absolutely recommend this harness to a friend.
Oh and if you are worried about the leg loops being non adjustable, you can see on the picture how there is more padding right under where the groin area would naturally sit... when you are hanging, that padding shifts around so your weight is on the pads and not the unpadded straps.
I'm a new climber but wanted to dive right into the sport and do it right. I also am in ROTC and wanted my own harness for our rappel and rope training; needless to say, this harness has everything I need and is really comfortable. It was tested when I slipped on the 75' rappel tower and hung upside down for about 5min trying to "right" myself, it kept me safe and there was no chaffing on my legs. Good service here too.
