My first belay...
This design is as simple and easy to use as it gets.
Thin ropes, thick ropes, frayed ropes - this thing handles em all pretty well. This is my first belay device and like I said, its easy to use. Rope feeds through easily wen you want it to and pulls solid friction on falls.
I will probably upgrade to a Petzl Grigri 2 soon, now that I am progressing as a climber and am starting to do more outdoor stuff.
This baby will still probably see use for indoor climbing at the gym. Either that, it will get used by friends who use my loaner harness; I'll know that if they are belaying me, that solid device is holding me up!
Only beef: the beaner is a bit big for belay I think - I upgraded to the BD locking pear shaped one - doesnt move around as much. The beaner that came with this set moved over to my outdoor stuff, its solid.
A great starter kit
You get exactly what it says- a large offset-D carabiner with a screwed gate and an atc-xp. It's a great beginner set and the price is alright. I've been using it for 2 months now and overall no complaints.
Great Biner Package
I have gotten a few climbs in with this biner/belay package and I must say it has worked well. I have used it in toproping in a gym setting and have had no problems. I actually prefer the screw lock over the spring lock so for me it is great, very smoothe one handed operation. However, if you are used to spring locks this may take getting used to. I recommend this package for beginners or as a backup for more expierienced climbers.
black diamond big air atc xp package
This atc is great very light weight and well made. I am newer to climbing and rappelling and this atc gives me more control and stopping power.
Black Diamond Big Air XP Package
The Black Diamond Big Air XP Package is a great starter kit. I Love the ATC-XP versatility with options to add more friction to rope with different diameters. It even works well with SRT on thin ropes if you add an extra biner. Yet its easy to take in rope while on belay.
good package deal. light weight, durable, easy to handle and better than a single rope device.
Like Old Faithful
I've had this thing take me from my first time climbing outdoors to now as I consider myself a somewhat intermediate climber. I just like how light and simple it is to use, I tend to fumble around with a GriGri a bit, but probably just because I don't use them that often. When I'm pitches off the ground belaying or repelling I prefer something simple like this so I can focus on the task at hand, and the extra little teeth provide great friction for lowering or rapping too. And very durable as I said it's been with me for years!
Great beg/intermediate package!
I am a canyoneering beginner and this was my first ATC. After about a years worth of climbs and repels I am STILL using this same one! This is a very basic set-up that is easy and straight forward to use. The carabiner is a very solid product and hasn't let me down. I recommend this to anyone who is still a beginner and even a intermediate.
is this good for sport rappell?
