ATC Guide

The ATC Guide Belay Device is already worthy of any climber's arsenal, but Black Diamond made it even better for alpinists and crag-stars alike. It still transcends the tube/auto-blocking category, allowing for a standard belay as well as belaying one or two climbers off anchors. Black Diamond upgraded it with machined windows for a lighter weight, and the larger auto-block release accepts smaller carabiners for a smoother and more dependable operation.

Perfect device for ice

I use this device with double and single ropes on multi-pitch ice in the Adirondacks. Perfect, simple, always functional no matter how cold and while wearing mittens. Because it doesn’t have any moving parts and is so easy to operate, I would recommend this device for beginner and expert climbers. When you’re leading it racks easy and doesn’t take up much room leaving space for screws and whatever other pro you need.

Very smooth belay, great for rappelling

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I normally use a grigri and decided to give the atc a try. It's so much smoother to belay with and it's cool to rappel with. I use it for outdoor top rope belays and some lead belays.

The Best!

Love it! It never leaves my harness. It does it all: Belay, Guide mode belay and rappel. My favorite!

Me favorite belay device

I like how the Black Diamond ATC Giude alines the rope when in guide mode. It works better for me than the other devices on the market.

I keep wearing them out!

I started with the reverso which got finely sharpened with wear but once BD had their version I bought it immediately. It’s been over a decade of weekly climbing and I’ve gone through 4 or 5 ATC guides now and love them!
