Primaloft insulation keeps you warm, but still allows your body to breathe during increased exertion, making the Mitchell great as a standalone shell on medium-temp days, or as a layer supplement on colder outings. But contrary to most puffy jackets, the Mitchell's quilted body and sleeves aren't incredibly bulky, so getting a waterproof shell on over it shouldn't be a problem.
